Art for the Soul by hotties with talent :-) Born on two different continents but both with a passion for the natural world.

Avril and Helen have come together to highlight the beauty of the amazing planet we share with the flora and fauna that inhabit the earth. Using canvas, brush and the colours of the rainbow we endeavour to bring the beauty of nature into your home. Both artists have very different techniques but both have the same goal, they would like the viewer to be immersed in the painting and find the joy that the artists experienced whilst creating the beautiful images.

Finally I feel it is time to put the brush down and sit back.
Once again it started as one thing and then took me down the road to another.
It gives me a fresh happy contented feeling. I hope you feel that also.

Normally I don't post about events until nearer the time but this one is special and for us garden lovers out there you need to have it on your things to do list. Mediterranean Garden Fair . Chilli Boy Piri Piri will be there and so will the hotties with talent, Helen Chance and Avril Thomas with our art.

🐎 The Lusitano 🐎

My latest painting, inspired by one of Portugal’s most beautiful and iconic breeds — the Lusitano.

I wanted to capture the strength, elegance and proud character of this magnificent horse, together with the traditional Portuguese rider. The vibrant oranges, golds and yellows create a feeling of heat, movement and energy, contrasting with the more traditional tones of horse and rider.

There is something very special about the relationship between a Lusitano and its rider — built on trust, respect and understanding.

🐆 “Silent Watcher”

There is something captivating about the quiet intensity of a leopard. In this painting, I wanted to capture that moment when the animal pauses and looks directly towards us—calm, powerful and completely aware.

The rich golden tones of the leopard’s coat contrast with a textured, atmospheric background of deep blues, greys and touches of gold, creating a contemporary feel while keeping the focus firmly on the animal.

For me, the eyes are the heart of the painting. They hold a sense of intelligence, strength and mystery—reminding us of the wild beauty we share our world with and the importance of protecting it.

Moonlit Guardian

I loved painting this beautiful barn owl, surrounded by the deep blues of the night and the warm glow of the moon. There is something incredibly peaceful about the way the owl rests on the branch, almost as if time has stood still for a moment.

I wanted to capture not only the beauty of the bird, but that quiet, mysterious feeling of seeing wildlife at night — a moment of stillness, watchfulness and connection with nature.

This is one of those paintings that I have really fallen in love with. 🦉🌙

The delicate circle of life.
The greater flamingo that visits the Algarve in Portugal each year. About 1000 of them in Castro Marim some of which have built their muddy nests and hatched about 500 odd chicks. Their lives are so delicate with thousands of miles of migration. I had to try and capture that balance.❣️

“Flamingo Gathering” 🦩

My latest painting is finished.

I wanted to capture the beauty and character of a small gathering of flamingos, rather than simply paint a study of individual birds. I was particularly drawn to the wonderful curves of their necks and the way their bodies overlap and weave together, creating an almost abstract pattern of feathers, colour

Flamingos have such an unmistakable elegance, and I hope this painting conveys something of their beauty, individuality and the quiet connection between them.

Unbreakable bond

I’m delighted to finally share my latest acrylic painting on canvas, measuring 60 cm × 122 cm.

This piece was one of the most challenging paintings I’ve undertaken. Capturing the incredible texture of an elephant’s skin, the sheer scale and power of the mother, while also portraying the tenderness and vulnerability of her calf, demanded patience, countless layers, and close attention to every detail.

For me, this painting is about far more than two elephants. It represents the quiet strength of motherhood, unconditional protection, and the deep bond that exists between parent and child. Their eyes tell a story of wisdom, trust and love.

Elephants are among the world’s most intelligent and emotionally connected animals, yet they continue to face threats from habitat loss and poaching. I hope this painting encourages people to pause, appreciate their beauty, and remember how important it is to protect them.

Running through deep snow, that was the request, well I think it worked out pretty well. This beautiful dog has now had its portrait painted using Acrylics on a 35cm x45cm canvas .
