From the pop-up concert at Metro do Porto station 🚇🎶 to today’s opening at Fundação Eng. António de Almeida 🎹✨, and with words from artistic director and jury president Alvaro Teixeira Lopes looking ahead to the days to come — we begin this edition in full momentum, bringing music into the city and the city into the music.

🎼 Porto plays the future of classical.
More than an award. More than a starting point. A meeting point between cultures and geographies.

The First Prize of the Santa Cecília International Piano Competition, awarded by the Porto City Council, recognises talent, artistic path and future 🤝
Jorge Sobrado, Councillor for Culture and Heritage of the CMP, highlights the prize’s role in the international projection of piano careers.

Recent winners:

🎹 Bogdan Dugalić (2025) — born in 2003, the competition marked a decisive moment in his artistic projection, now established on the international circuit, including First Prize at the Mozart Competition in Salzburg (2026) and performances at venues such as the Berliner Philharmonie and the Mariinsky Concert Hall.

🎹 Zhexiang Li (2024) — the competition boosted his European projection; this very young Chinese pianist impressed with his technique, but also with his emotional maturity and human approach to music.

🎹 Artem Kuznetsov (2023) — the prize accompanied the trajectory of his international career, now flourishing, with worldwide tours and collaborations with orchestras and concert cycles.

🎹 In 2026, the Santa Cecília International Piano Competition highlights the work of Portuguese composer Amílcar Vasques-Dias.

🎼 His music stands at the crossroads of European avant-garde (Stockhausen, Xenakis) and Portuguese tradition, shaped by figures such as Fernando Lopes-Graça.

🌙 Doze Noturnos em Teu Nome is a key work in the contemporary Portuguese piano repertoire, opening space for multiple interpretations across cultures and pianistic voices.

✨ A choice that reaffirms the competition’s commitment to living Portuguese creation.
