How a birthday, a hammer, some silver, and a few ideas became my Edit Ring. New article in 50 and Rising. https://50andrising.com/birthday-edit-ring/ My ring is made with hammer and punch marks that create letters and designs.
Each mark on the metal represents a thought or something that came out of my stream-of-consciousness writing.
Notice I’m avoiding the word “list.” This is an object of strength.
I joined a “make your ring” workshop with Paula Vieira here in Lisbon. I wanted to do something creative for my 69th birthday.

The trip that taught me how to look again, get lost and have fun.
New article in 50 and Rising
Traveling for art has been a constant theme in my life. I had ten days of no news, no scrolling, and just enough time on my phone to take photos and confirm reservations. It was one of the best breaks I’ve had in years, even with the heatwave.

Paris heatwave: What I packed and what worked best.

No more t-shirts!
I used to think t-shirts were the best summer options. Not anymore.
Loose cotton or linen shirts worked far better for me, and I will tell you why.

When cotton and linen wrinkle, they still look good. In fact, the relaxed, wrinkled look has become quite fashionable. I have adopted it when I travel and have to admit that I also use wrinkly linen in Lisbon where I live.

A hat is useful, but it can become hot and it doesn’t protect your whole body. a regular umbrella provides shade too, but if you want better protection, look for a UV umbrella.
I have one, but check the weight before you buy. Some of them are quite heavy.
