This year, our usual Christmas cards never quite made it out. In December we launched and the days became shorter, and lists longer. Between proofs, papers, magic erasers, and last-minute decisions, the ritual slipped.
Instead, a Chinese New Year card has now taken its place, inspired by the Year of the Horse. Perhaps because, years ago, I inherited a photograph: a horse named Cabrito, who belonged to my great-great-great-grandfather from Alentejo. I always found the image quietly beautiful, a little enigmatic, holding a story I was never told. The Year of the Horse felt like the right moment.
I added a few words for the year ahead, remnants of paper stock from my long-time printer, and a debossed Art Nouveau frame. And so the horse set off: for homes, studios, offices, settling into new places and (I hope) new walls.
