To young directors, costume designers, and set designers:
Maybe it is time to stop accepting roles that exist only to serve someone else’s vision.
Someone else’s vision is someone else’s vision.
Someone else’s career is someone else’s career.
If you spend years being the invisible foundation beneath other people’s work, it becomes very easy to be seen as “indispensable” — and still remain unseen. This is not about rejecting every collaboration. It is about stopping the habit of giving your best energy to projects that do not build your own path.
It is time to invest in tools, visibility, and skills that allow you to develop your visions — creatively and professionally. Your talent should not spend its whole life working for someone else’s dreams.
