Artist Spotlight: As we look ahead to The Overview Effect, we’re excited to share the artists and designers bringing this exhibition to life. Today, we’re spotlighting Meherunnisa Asad.
Asad is a multidisciplinary artist who approaches craft as an act of shared authorship, realized through many hands. At Studio Lél—the Peshawar atelier founded by her mother, Farhana Asad, and now under Meherunnisa’s artistic direction—she transforms craft traditions into poetic, contemporary sculptural works, collaborating with artisans, many of them displaced, from the Pakistan-Afghanistan borderlands. We’re honored to include Meher’s newest work in The Overview Effect this September.
The Overview Effect is inspired by the profound cognitive shift astronauts experience when looking back at Earth from space. As borders disappear, our planet’s interconnectedness comes into focus.
The exhibition asks: Must we leave Earth to understand how deeply our lives are intertwined?
Through the work of international artists and designers, The Overview Effect explores how art and design can reconnect us to nature, to one another, and to our shared planetary future.
