The film went on to become a box office success and is particularly notable for inspiring later adaptations. Its story was subsequently remade in India as Benazir, starring Meena Kumari and Ashok Kumar, while the story was also adapted multiple times in Pakistan in films including Do Ansoo ,Anjuman and Dilan de Sauday.
Noor Jehan sang the following beautiful songs for Bhaijaan (1945):
• Jinke Qadam Se Ghar Tha Ghar
• Aye Baad-e-Saba Kuchh Tune Suna
• Chupke Se Dil Mein Aa Base
• Begum Janiyan Ki God Bharai
• Apne Na Ho Sake, Jo Dil Ka Qarar Ho Kar
• Maalik Mere Maabood
• Aa Ja Bedardi Aa Ja
It is said that Noor Jehan had a fallout with the film’s director, S. Khalil, after which she did not record these songs for gramophone release. The songs were subsequently recorded for commercial records by Zeenat Begum.
Sadly, the film print of Bhaijaan is not known to survive today. Of Noor Jehan’s songs from the film, only “Jinke Qadam Se Ghar Tha Ghar” is known to have survived in a video recording.
