We are delighted to welcome Dr. Marwa Zafarullah as our guest speaker under PU Alumni North America Chapter.

Dr. Zafarullah is a neuroscientist at Stanford University School of Medicine, where she researches molecular signatures of brain disorders using multi-omics, AI, and machine learning to improve early diagnosis and disease monitoring. She holds an M.S. and Ph.D. in Integrative Genetics and Genomics from UC Davis and brings over a decade of interdisciplinary research experience in biomarker discovery, drug development, and neurological disorders.

She also completed the prestigious Stanford Ignite Program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, combining science, innovation, and leadership to translate research into real-world solutions.

Punjab University Alumni Office proudly congratulates the highly distinguished academician, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗗𝗿. 𝗡𝗶𝗮𝘇 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗸𝗵𝘁𝗮𝗿 (𝗦.𝗜.), on assuming the prestigious office of 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻, 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗮𝗸𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻.

Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Akhtar has an illustrious record of academic leadership, having served as Vice Chancellor of various public universities; Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad; University of the Punjab; University of Engineering & Technology, Taxila; University of Sahiwal; Information Technology University, Lahore, and as Rector of National Textile University, Faisalabad. He also served with distinction as Vice Chairman, Pakistan Engineering Council (2021–2024).

𝗔𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗻𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗻𝗷𝗮𝗯, Prof. Dr. Niaz earned both his undergraduate and Master’s degrees from this esteemed institution. He is a recipient of numerous national and academic 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 and has authored and edited several 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀, with extensive research contributions in the field of 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Under the auspicious guidance of the 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘺 𝘝𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘳, University of the Punjab, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐝 𝐀𝐥𝐢 (𝐒.𝐈., 𝐓.𝐈.), the PU Alumni Office organized a session under the Alumni Talk Series at the College of Pharmacy, Punjab University.

The talk was delivered by 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐒𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐇𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐧 on the topic “𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐋𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦.” The session provided valuable insights into the evolving role of pharmacotherapy in clinical practice and the global opportunities available for pharmacy graduates.

Prof. Dr. Syed Ahmed Hussain shared his extensive experience in clinical pharmacy education and professional practice, drawing upon his involvement with Canadian pharmacy institutions and international collaborations. He highlighted the importance of patient-centered care, evidence-based decision-making, and the expanding responsibilities of clinical pharmacists.

A significant portion of the talk focused on pathways to professional licensure in Canada. He provided:

• An overview of the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) and its examination system required for certification and practice in most Canadian provinces
• Guidance on exam preparation, including coursework requirements, experiential training, and examination components
• Practical advice on meeting eligibility criteria and successfully navigating the licensing process

In his concluding remarks, Prof. Hussain encouraged students to:
• Strengthen their clinical knowledge and communication skills
• Engage in continuous learning and evidence-based practice
• Explore international licensing opportunities as a gateway to global pharmacy careers

The session was highly informative and inspiring, offering students a clear perspective on clinical excellence and international professional pathways.
