As we celebrate our 74th Independence Day, I cannot but feel an overwhelming sense of pride towards our country. History is replete with heroic struggles of our ancestors who martyred themselves selflessly so that us, the future generations, could enjoy the fruits of an independent nation. I salute their supreme sacrifice and bow my head in reverence to them.
On this Independence Day greeting my countrymen who are proud Pakistanis just like me, I urge them to value what has been handed over to us on a platter, by doing good in deed and spirit so that our Parcham-e Sitara o Hilal and the name of Pakistan flies high.
I also thank all my fans for the unending love and adulation you have showered on me all these years. As an act of gratitude and also to commemorate our 74th I’Day, I have collaborated with the multi-talented Asim Jofa to bring something that would reiterate how blessed we are to be living in an independent country, to be Pakistanis.

Since we are aware that the entire world is going through unprecedented times due to Covid-19, I would also take this opportunity to request all Pakistanis to keep their indomitable spirit high and inspire each other to fight this pandemic without losing our vision of a better future. While we are inching towards normalcy as the lockdown restrictions are being lifted gradually, it would still be prudent to take all the necessary precautions instead of going all footloose and fancy free. Please be mindful of maintaining social distancing and avoid going in groups. Jaan hai toh Jahan Hai.
It is only a matter of time when things would take a turn for brighter tomorrow. As a wise man once said, This Too Shall Pass

Been thinking what to write and offer my condolences to the family... but there are no words that can express the grief and sadness. Abid Ali sahab was a legend. I did my first drama Ghulam Gardish with him and what a fine actor he was. I remember, he didn’t talk much but was a lovely human being.
And another sad news came in with the passing away of the legendary spin bowler Abdul Qadir. Don’t think, we’ve had a better spinner than him.
May their souls rest in peace.🙏

Was unwinding with my daughter Maryam jan, in my father’s room...talking about him...listening to music and this song came on the playlist. She suggested that I should pay a tribute to him, as this used to be one of his favourite songs. “Aaj Jaaney Ki Zidd Na Karo”. What a beautiful song originally sung by the ghazal queen Farida Khanum Sahiba and composed by Sohail Rana Sahib. In the film, it was sung by Habib Wali Mohammad Sahib.
Here’s a small trivia about the song- as everyone knows Farida Khanum Sahiba was a ghazal singer, but Sohail Rana Sahab requested her to sing the song in her own style. It turned out to be one of the most famous songs till date. According to me, it’s one of the most romantic songs ever.
A lot of singers have sung this song, but I love the cover of this song, done by the maestro Arijit Singh. He’s done a marvellous job.🙏🏻

I was happily singing “Dil Dil Pakistan” a few days back in Leeds, UK after Pakistan won the cricket match, didn’t even know today I’ll be passing my condolences to the lyricist of this beautiful song Nisar Nasik.
There was an era where, “Sohni Dharti” and “Jivey jivey Pakistan”, were the most sung songs, then came Dil Dil Pakistan which became one of the most popular national song to be sung on every occasion. Be it at the warfront or be it a stadium.
This song was released by the pop band Vital Signs in 1987. It’s said to be Pakistan’s second national anthem. Today we lost the person who penned the lyrics of this song- Nisar Nasik. My condolences to his family. Sir you will always be remembered in prayers. More so each time we will sing, “Dil Dil Pakistan.”🙏
