Honoring Ms. Lal Pari – A True Hero from the Shimsal Valley
Ms. Lal Pari, originally from the Shimsal Valley, has served her community with unmatched dedication as a midwife and nurse. Although her retirement did not come by choice, as she is battling a brain tumor–like illness, her contributions remain unforgettable. Today, she resides in Aliabad, Hunza, where she is focusing on her health and the upbringing of her children.
In a time when the valley had barely one dispenser or medical attendant for basic first aid, Ms. Lal Pari would walk for hours—through harsh winters and hot summers—going door to door to provide care for mothers and children. Her service was powered only by passion, without expecting any reward or recognition. Her selflessness and commitment continue to inspire countless people.
We strongly urge the government to nominate her for a well-deserved award in recognition of her lifelong service.
Keeping her health in mind, we conducted a short interview to highlight her contributions so that every daughter of the nation may follow in her footsteps and serve with the same devotion. Truly, Lal Pari lives up to her name—a fairy among us

Shimsal Valley, being remote, still faces challenges in education and healthcare. Government bodies, along with Aga Khan Development Network institutions—including AKES and AKHS—are working to provide essential services. However, due to limited facilities, many patients must travel to Gilgit or Aliabad for treatment. Recently, several children with appendicitis underwent successful surgeries at the Government Hospital Aliabad and the Aga Khan Health Centre Aliabad.
A collaborative medical camp in Shimsal also helped diagnose various conditions, making healthcare more accessible. We hope the government continues providing improved medical facilities to the people, because it is their fundamental right.
