Students laptop alert 🔔

It is deeply concerning to see that while students across universities in Pakistan have already received laptops under the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme, the students of Karakoram International University (KIU) are still waiting without any clear justification.

This scheme was launched with the vision to empower youth, promote digital learning, and bridge the technological gap among students. Unfortunately, KIU administration’s delay in issuing these laptops is not only creating frustration but also depriving students of opportunities that their peers are already benefiting from.

As representatives of the student body, we respectfully urge the KIU administration to clarify the reasons behind this delay and ensure immediate distribution of laptops to deserving students. Education today is incomplete without access to digital tools, and withholding such facilities directly impacts academic growth and future prospects.

We are not asking for a favor — this is the rightful provision of students under a national initiative.

We stand united in demanding transparency, accountability, and immediate action.

As concerned students committed to our education and rights, we wish to highlight ongoing issues that are adversely affecting our academic experience and financial well-being. While university semesters are typically designed to span six months, ours are frequently shortened to just two to three months due to repeated closures for various reasons, including winter and summer breaks, fuel shortages, and other unforeseen circumstances. Despite this, we are required to pay the full semester fees, even though instruction is limited to a fraction of the intended duration, followed abruptly by final examinations.

This practice not only disrupts our learning but also places an undue financial burden on us. We propose that, rather than imposing additional closures such as those related to fuel shortages, the administration consider reducing semester fees proportionally to reflect the actual instructional time provided. Such a measure would offer much-needed relief and ensure fairness for all students.

Furthermore, the shift to online classes exacerbates these challenges. In our region, internet connectivity remains unreliable—often marketed as 4G but performing at 2G speeds or worse—making it extremely difficult to participate effectively in virtual learning. This situation undermines educational equity and constitutes an injustice to students who are striving to succeed under these constraints.

We urge the university administration to engage in open dialogue with student representatives to address these concerns promptly. Together, we can advocate for policies that prioritize our rights to quality education and fair treatment. Let's stand united for a better academic environment.
