TOP SPORTS | Azul Aguilas’ championship blitz in CEAP Regional MLBB Esports
Written by Fletch Archer Arado
Zamboanga City’s Azul Aguilas cruised to a championship in the CEAP Regional 2026 Esports tournament with a perfect 10-0 winning streak, held on February 24-28, 2026 at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Senior High School (AdZU-SHS) Computer Laboratory.
The roster featured team captain Isaiah Michael Dimasuhid (Mid Laner), James Rimiel Maramba, (Roamer), Maximillian Kurt Alampay (Gold Laner), Alyaser Lajarato (Jungler), and Yasheen Bin Nasser Isa (EXP Laner).
Fueled by strong experience in local and national tournaments, the Aguilas relied on coordinated objectives, calculated pick-offs, swift rotations, and synchronized engagements which led to consistent team fight victories.
With the tournament employing a global ban system that restricted previously used heroes, the Aguilas’ adopted a flexible drafting strategy, their wide hero pool allowed them to adjust to multiple scenarios, focusing on counter-picks to neutralize the opposing team’s draft composition.
Ultimately, what separated Azul Aguilas from the battlefield was their ability to dictate the game’s tempo through decisive playmaking skills.
“One of the key factors was our composure. We did not feel pressured throughout the tournament.” Dimasuhid said.
This mindset would soon prove crucial when the team encountered unexpected challenges during the tournament.
That composure was tested against Pagadian City, whose use of unconventional and out-of-meta hero selections briefly threatened to disrupt Azul Aguilas’ rhythm, the team responded by staying disciplined and relying on ex*****on.
“We managed this by banning the heroes they were most comfortable with,” Dimasuhid explained, a decisive adjustment that forced Pagadian City onto unfamiliar heroes and paved the way for a clean sweep.
Among the roster, Roamer Maramba emerged as the team’s overall Most Valuable Player (MVP), serving as the strategic mind behind drafts, ex*****on through consistent map control, and relentless pressure on the enemy jungle.
“His presence and decision-making greatly impacted the flow of the game, which is why we consider him our MVP” Dimasuhid remarked.
Despite Azul Aguilas’ dominant, composure-driven run, Dimasuhid views the campaign as far from flawless, emphasizing that much more improvements could be made, “Even though we were undefeated, not all of our wins were clean,” he acknowledged, noting that cleaner ex*****on could have produced more consistent fast finishes, ideally under 15 minutes.
With a championship secured and clear benchmarks set for improvement, Azul Aguilas look forward to competing in the upcoming CEAP Mindanao 2026 Esports tournament, carrying the pride of AdZU as they continue to seek for victory.
