A residency isn't just the exhibit at the end. It's everything that happens before it.

Over several days in the studio, Kyle Jocson worked through the paintings that now make up "Tierra Dulce" — testing colors, revising compositions, returning again and again to the same canvas until it held what he needed it to hold.

This is the part visitors rarely see. The part that shapes everything they eventually will.

Behind every sugar crystal is a story rarely told. 🍬

Tagpuan Art Atelier presents “Tierra Dulce” — a solo exhibition by Kyle Jocson.

Sugar built empires here — haciendas, mills, seasons of cane cut by hands far from the profit it makes. Tierra Dulce follows that trail from field to refinery, and finds what gets left behind when sweetness is extracted: labor, land, people, largely uncredited.

Opening as the rains return to Cavite — a fitting season for a show about what keeps growing, unseen, beneath the yield.

Some artists ask what to make. Kyle Jocson asks why.

We are glad to welcome Kyle Jocson — visual artist, Taichi practitioner from Negros Occidental — as Tagpuan's resident artist for June to August 2026.
Kyle's practice centers on painting and the human figure, informed by an intimate familiarity with the body — how it moves, how it works, how it carries both labor and intention. His figures are the inquiry itself.

What drives Kyle's work runs deeper than image-making. Exposure to broader artistic discourses pushed him to confront a harder set of questions: not just how to paint, but why. What responsibility an artwork carries. What it means to show up to a practice with accountability, not just skill.

We're looking forward to watching it unfold. 🤍

From the garden to the art studio, from art workshops to afternoon discussions — this is what Jebo Padernal's days at Tagpuan looked like. The quiet mornings, the hands-on work and the people who showed up alongside him.

Jebo shared something simple but real — that we don't have to hold everything in, that there are people around willing to help carry the weight. That it's okay to let things be uncomplicated. To paint, and to live, as you are. 🎨

Last Sunday, Kubli opened its doors — and you all showed up. 🤍

Good conversations, familiar faces, new ones, and Jebo's work holding its own quietly in the middle of it all. Figures on the wall, people in the room — everyone carrying something, everyone finding something to take home.
Three months of residency. One room full of it.
Thank you to everyone who came out to Punlaan Art Space to spend time with Jebo and his work. And thank you, Jebo, for trusting us with something so personal — and making it so worth the drive to Amadeo. 🙏

Kubli may have closed, but we have a feeling it'll stay with you. 🖤

Ways of seeing.
Jebo Padernal talks about Axis of Belief, his favorite work from Kubli—a large oil painting designed to be viewed from more than one direction. Turn it one way and the image shifts. Rotate it, and another reading emerges.

At the heart of the work is a question: Where do we place our faith?

Do we lean toward reason, evidence, and what can be measured and explained? Or are we drawn toward mystery—the unknown, the unprovable, the things we feel but cannot fully define?

Rather than offering answers, Axis of Belief invites viewers to consider where they stand along that spectrum, and how that position may change over time.

Jebo Padernal walks us through how he works — and why the distinction between wet and dry media matters more than it might seem.
With oil on canvas, Jebo follows the paint. The colors, the consistency, the fluidity — it's a process he describes as relaxing. His subjects here come from external references, observed and translated through the brush.
With soft pastels, something shifts. The dry medium becomes a space for excavation — exploring the human figure not from observation, but from within. Expression, gesture, character — all drawn from internal emotion rather than anything in front of him.

Jebo Padernal's debut solo exhibit Kubli opens this June at Punlaan Art Space — a body of paintings and drawings born from heartbreak, grief, and the quiet weight of things carried alone.

Kubli: to hide. Not just yourself — but everything you refuse to let anyone see.

The figures in these works do not cry out. They hunch. They fold inward. They hold their own heads between their hands. They look sideways at something just out of frame.

You'll recognize them. You might recognize yourself.
