Slow and meditative, calming and peaceful. That's how I feel when I pause and spend a moment with a snail.
I remember in the neighborhood where I grew up in, there was a narrow alley tucked between a house and an overgrown grassy lot. That little patch of earth became home to dozens of snails. "Snailville", I called it, like it was its own tiny, glistening town.
Every evening, as I walked with our two dogs, we’d pause by that alley to observe the snails for a while. Just to watch. Just to be. It's one of life’s simple joys for me.
But one night… one night was different.
As we turned the corner, I was filled with awe. Not just a handful, but close to a hundred snails were gathered together, like a grand family reunion of the slow and slimy kind. Huge snails, big snails, medium snails, small snails, and teenie-tiny snails.. all drawn to that small patch of concrete and grass. It felt nothing short of magical. An unexpected gathering that pulsed with quiet life and wonder. It was a beautiful celebration of life under the stars. ✨️
And oh, did I ever tell you about the “catyard” on the next street? But that's a story for next time.
We moved a few years ago, but I carry these small moments with me. Little pockets of joy tucked between memory and imagination.
Do snails and other tiny creatures of nature inspire you too? I'd love to hear your story. :)
Love,
