A truly inspiring afternoon with renowned production designer and visual storyteller Hans Bacher during his masterclass held last June 13, where he shared invaluable insights on animation, illustration, and the creative process.

From personal stories and production experiences on iconic projects such as Mulan and Balto, to practical lessons on anatomy, light, composition, and character design, participants gained a deeper appreciation for the artistry and discipline behind visual storytelling.

Hans emphasized the importance of mastering fundamentals, embracing mistakes as opportunities to learn, and drawing inspiration from diverse artistic influences. Through live demonstrations and candid reflections from decades in the industry, attendees were reminded that creativity thrives through curiosity, observation, and continuous practice.

Thank you to everyone who joined this enriching session and to Hans Bacher for generously sharing his knowledge, experiences, and passion for the craft.

From digital design hacks like font manipulation, logo creation, and seamless gradient production to the art of building compelling color scripts, the session offered a rare look into the creative process behind animation and visual storytelling.

One key takeaway: great design isn't just about aesthetics—it's about understanding mood, composition, color harmony, and the history that shaped today's creative industry.

Also discovered incredible artists worth exploring, including Patricio Betteo, Ulrich Malotki, Sylvain Sarrailh (Spa), and Paul Chadeisson, whose unique approaches to design, illustration, and world-building continue to inspire creatives worldwide.

Hosted by the Animation Council of the Philippines (ACPI) and led by animation director and mentor Airi Beltran, this engaging session introduced participants to the foundations of 3D animation while offering valuable insights into the realities of working in the global animation industry.

From sharing her inspiring journey from the Philippines to Canada and her work on projects such as Monsters at Work, The Addams Family, and Wondla, to demonstrating essential animation principles through live examples, Airi provided attendees with practical knowledge and professional guidance.
