2026 has been a remarkable year for Arttalksph, with invitations to international conferences spanning both business and design. It has been an honor to represent ArtTalks Ph on these global stages and to witness firsthand how art continues to bridge industries, cultures, and communities.
Weekly Artist Feature: Danny Labuyo
"Nothing beautiful is ever truly thrown away."
Danny Labuyo is a Manila-based graphic designer and illustrator who turns discarded books into vibrant works of visual storytelling. Working from dumpsters, second-hand shops, and dusty attic boxes, he salvages volumes too damaged to read and too outdated to keep, then paints directly over their yellowed pages. The result is a striking dialogue between past and present, where faded maps become surreal landscapes and forgotten portraits gain new meaning through layers of color. Each piece is a collaboration between the artist and the artifact, an act of preservation that challenges our culture of disposability. As Labuyo puts it: "Every book carries a life within it. My work is about listening to that life and giving it a new voice."

Ongoing Exhibits
Congratulations to all artists who participated in our online exhibit "Sa Piling Ni Nanay."
REACH Virtual Exhibit is looking good. E-certificates have been handed out. Thank you to all who participated and we would love to hear your experience with our virtual 3D art gallery.
A new virtual art exhibit is on the way titled "Another Dimension." Details will be announced this week.
Local Art Events
1. Old Iskul, Old Is Cool Side B
Parola presents Old Iskul, Old Is Cool Side B, featuring select UP College of Fine Arts alumni from 1970 to 1999. The exhibition opens September 19, 2026, at 5 PM and will be on view at the Atrium of the UP Fine Arts Gallery until October 10, 2026. Free and open to the public.
2. Philippine Handloom Weaving Festival
The Philippine Handloom Weaving Festival runs through September 20 at Gateway Mall in Quezon City. The festival celebrates and helps preserve the country's indigenous weaving heritage while bringing together local artisans, designers, and scientists.
3. BGC Art Mart
BGC Art Mart returns on September 19 to 20 at Alveo Central Plaza, BGC Arts Center. The event brings together local artists, artisans, and crafters to showcase their works and connect with fellow creatives and the community.
International Art Event
Lyon Biennale 2026
The 18th Lyon Biennale opens to the public on September 19, 2026, and runs until December 13, 2026, across 11 venues in Lyon and its metropolitan area. Entitled "Passer d'un rêve à l'autre / To pass from one dream to another," this edition features 120 artists and explores how we move from one mode of perception to another.
