Ang araw na ito, Hunyo 17, 2026, ay isang natatanging yugto sa kasaysayan ng Birhen ng Antipolo at ng ating pambansang bayani na si Dr. Jose Rizal. Ngayong araw ay ginanap ang makasaysayang pagbisita at pagdungaw ng Birhen ng Antipolo sa Tahanan ng Pamilya Rizal sa Calamba Laguna. Ito ay bunga ng kooperasyon at matagumpay na ugnayan ng Diocese of Antipolo, Diocese of Laguna, govt agency partners, tagapamahala ng tahanan ng mga Rizal at mga pribadong sector.

Si Dr. Jose Rizal at ang Birhen ng Antipolo (Nuestra SeΓ±ora de la Paz y Buen Viaje) ay may malalim na koneksyon sa kasaysayan, partikular dahil sa panata ng kanyang ina.

Ipinanata ng kanyang ina na si DoΓ±a Teodora Alonso na dadalhin si Rizal sa Antipolo sakaling siya ay ligtas na maipanganak, dahil naging napakahirap ng kanyang pagbubuntis.

Ang Peregrinasyon: Noong Hunyo 6, 1868, tinupad ng kanyang ama na si Don Francisco Mercado ang panata at isinama ang 7-taong-gulang na si Jose Rizal sa Antipolo bilang pasasalamat sa ligtas na pagsilang ng bayani.

On this day, we commemorate the 118th founding anniversary of the University of the Philippines, established on 18 June 1908 by virtue of Act No. 1870.

Shown in the photo is the historical marker of the state university mounted at the Oblation Plaza, dedicated on 18 June 1985 in line with the university’s 77th Foundation Day. It was unveiled by the National Historical Institute (NHI) under the leadership of its Chairman, Dr. Serafin D. Quiason. On the part of the university, it was realized during the administration of Edgardo J. Angara, then President of UP and Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Commission on the U.P. Diamond Jubilee.

The marker is rooted in the commemoration of UP’s Diamond Jubilee and in the recognition of its role as a β€œfountain of learning and source of leadership of the Filipino people.” From 1908 to 2026, UP remains a vital institution of education, research, public service, and national consciousness.

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines joins the UP community in celebrating 118 years of excellence, service, and nation-building.

As we commemorate the freedom won by our forebears, we also honor the Heart of Christβ€”the source of true love, mercy, justice, and peace. This providential coincidence reminds us that while political freedom is a precious gift, our nation must also remain rooted in the values that uphold human dignity, unity, and compassion.

On this day, let us pray for our beloved Philippines. May the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus bless our nation with wisdom for our leaders, integrity in public service, unity among our people, and hope for those who suffer from poverty, injustice, and hardship. May His Heart inspire us to become responsible citizens who work for the common good and build a society founded on truth, charity, and respect for one another.

As we raise our flag in gratitude for our independence, let us also entrust our country to the loving protection of Christ, whose Sacred Heart continues to beat with love for every Filipino.
