The Celebration of World Autism Awareness Day coincided with the United Nations’ global “Light It Up Blue” campaign, as landmarks around the world lit up in blue in support of autism awareness and inclusion.
At Smart Araneta Coliseum Lobby, the “Light It Up Blue Countdown” was led by PACDLD Autism Advocates Ambassador Elijah Canlas, together with past and present Autism Advocate Awardees and the Gonzales Family, held last April 7.
It was a meaningful moment of unity and solidarity with the global autism community—spreading awareness, acceptance, and hope for individuals on the spectrum and their families.
Together, we continue to move forward toward a more inclusive world. 💙

The celebration of World Autism Awareness Day opened with a meaningful gathering centered on inclusion, hope, and advocacy, welcoming guests into a warm atmosphere that underscored understanding and acceptance of individuals on the autism spectrum.

Opening remarks set the tone for unity and awareness, followed by messages of support from partners and advocates.

Celebrating 10 years of impact and advocacy! 💙
This annual event, organized by the Philippine Association for Citizens with Developmental and Learning Disabilities (PACDLD), marks a decade of empowering individuals and championing inclusion. One of the biggest highlights of this celebration is the 10th Autism Advocate Awards—honoring inspiring individuals and organizations who continue to make a difference in the autism community. The program also marked a milestone with the recognition of Elijah Canlas as the first Autism Advocate Ambassador for his commitment to advancing autism awareness and inclusion.

Another highlight was the “Light It Up Blue” illumination of the Smart Araneta Coliseum, symbolizing solidarity, hope, and support for the autism community. The program was further strengthened by the presence of partner institutions including the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, National Council on Disability Affairs, Gateway Gallery, J. Amado Araneta Foundation - JAAF, Araneta City, PDAO QC Chief Debbie Cabanag Dacanay representing QC Mayor Joy Belmonte, and previous Autism Advocate awardees—Dra. Lourdes Carandang, Jan Peña, Arch. Cathy Cham, Diwata Reyes, and Rizalio Sanchez—alongside other partners, reinforcing a strong spirit of collaboration and advocacy.

The event was hosted by Bb. Pilipinas International 2025
Katrina Johnson.

World Autism Awareness Day, held last April 7, was a meaningful celebration of inclusion, hope, and advocacy.
At the heart of the program was the 10th Autism Advocate Awards, led by the Philippine Association for Citizens with Developmental and Learning Disabilities (PACDLD), with the support of National Commission for Culture and the Arts, National Council on Disability Affairs, Gateway Gallery, the J. Amado Araneta Foundation - JAAF, and Araneta City.

We honored ten remarkable advocates whose dedication continues to uplift individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities:

Carmencita Dolora N. Alegre, MD
Rita A. Aquino
Dr. Benjamin Bernandino
Marizel Pulhin-Dacumos, MD, FPPS, FPSDBP
Christine Posa Escasinas
Maria Rosario Joaquin, M.A.Ed, ACAS, BCCS
Anne Marie Makilan, M.A.Ed, EM, MaEd-SPED
Ma. Flory Mapeso
Jocelyn S. Sanchez, MD, FPPS, FPSDBP
Helario B. Supaz

The event also marked a historic moment with the introduction of PACDLD’s Autism Advocates Ambassador, Elijah Canlas —an Autism Advocate Awardee two years ago—now using his voice and platform to champion autism awareness and inclusion.

We look forward with hope to the impact he will make in promoting acceptance and empowerment for individuals on the spectrum and their families.

That day reminded us of the love, dedication, and hope that build a more inclusive future. Together, we move forward—hand in hand—toward a world where everyone is understood, accepted, and empowered.
