STORY TIME.
I have a gay son and I love him genuinely, wholeheartedly, without conditions.
But I once experienced someone VERY RELIGIOUS mocking him. Not to his face, not to my face, but behind our back, because he’s gay.
I’m not even sure what that person was truly worried about. Maybe she was afraid that someone she loves, who’s close to my son, might “become” gay too. Or maybe she feared that my son would do something inappropriate to that someone who is close to her.
And as a mother, that broke me.
Because when someone looks at your child like he’s a threat or like he’s a disease, it cuts deeper than words can explain.
I regret not fighting harder in that moment. I regret staying quiet. There were nights I cried silently, carrying the weight of it alone. Especially today, with the issue involving SB Izzy and her son Adrian, now Sofia trending everywhere.
But instead of responding with anger, I chose to pray for that “religious” person.
Not because it didn’t hurt.
But because my son deserves a mother who leads with love, not hate.
And I will always choose my child. 🤍
I understand that we all have different beliefs especially when it comes to religion and sexuality.
We were raised differently. We see the world differently. And that’s okay.
But no matter where we stand, may we always choose kindness over judgment.
Respect over assumptions.
Love over fear.
We don’t have to agree with each other’s choices in life but we can always choose to treat one another with dignity and grace. 🤍
