PANGAMOT — a fundraising art exhibition for KADUNAAN, a folk gathering in Abilay Sur, Oton.

We are featuring the works of 46 artists from Iloilo and beyond who are supporting us in the intention of remembering, reclaiming, and renewing practices that honor our uma, lutak, ambahanon, ritwal, and sugilanon.

PANGAMOT means contribution. It also means tending.

And what if tending is the quiet revolution?

In a time that fractures land into property and story into content, we are touching toward something slower, something porous. We are walking toward the small fire that does not demand applause. Toward the bowl of water passed between neighbors. Toward the trembling truth that healing is a returning — again and again — to the touch of earth.

Each work offered is a seed to be planted somewhere in the body where it might trouble certainty and invite kinship.

Come with your listening.
Come with your questions.
Come with your unfinished longings.

Let us sit at the edge of the field together.
Let us feel what is still possible in the quiet between drumbeats.
Let us practice being hand, being earth to one another.

For any work of art to be fully understood and appreciated, there's a need to know the ideas, the inspirations, limitations, struggles and amounts of time, all resources and supports needed by an artist in the completion of each work of art.

I thank the Almighty God the Father for guiding me and enlightening me in using the talent that He alone blessed me with and to use correctly despite all the shortcomings and sins that I had.

If my memory serves me right, I started to paint LUZVIMINDA in 1993. It was fully completed in 1997 after three long years of patiently painting it with meticulous attention to each and every detail which I decided to include in this oil on canvas painting.

LUZVIMINDA was first featured on TV in 1994 in ABS-CBN Tatak Pilipino hosted by Jim Paredes and Gel Santos Relos.

It was shown on TV nationwide as part of the interview by ABS-CBN featuring my 100-foot long large mural commissioned by GUESS?USA PHILIPPINES which was inaugurated by Supermodel Anna Nicole Smith and Health Secretary Juan Flavier. During that interview the painting was only on its initial stage still with less elements.

When I finally completed LUZVIMINDA in 1997 and exhibited it at the John Batten Gallery in Hong Kong that same year, it was there in the interview by CNN INTERNATIONAL Asia This Day hosted by James Lee in Hong Kong where I described and explained the meaning of my painting.

I mentioned my experiences about being an Artist, including as a Hong Kong-based Artist, in this interview done in Hong Kong in 2021.

LUZVIMINDA is not only a historical work of art but also already part of the history of Philippine Art and of my life's story as a self-taught Ilonggo artist.

LUZVIMINDA was inspired by an oil on canvas painting that I did in 1988 titled "Ang Paghihirap Ng Anak Ng Tao" (“The Continuing Agony of the Son of Man”) which won the1988 HONORABLE MENTION Oil Painting Category Award in the Metrobank 5th Annual Painting Competition, Metrobank Plaza, Makati, Philippines

For a span of more than a decade, a lingering thought and need to give a name to this style that I started and have developed for many years and decades made me think of a coined word that would reverberate and remain in people's thoughts so they would remember me as the Artist and author of these types of art pieces, the original idea behind them all and all the body or works in the lots of various series which followed it.

I called this style that I invented as ZIZOISM - which means zoom-in zoom-out. And it means to view the piece of art from a distance as well as on closer look in order for the viewers, especially art lovers and art collectors, to see both the overall big picture in contrast to the minutely meticulous juxtaposed details.

The overall effects to the viewers are many and could include the feeling either of sadness, of loss and of remorse because of merely a mirage seen in each of the paintings in contrast to the present disturbing reality,

or to serve as an inspiration for the countless positive possibilities offered by the many blessings given by the Almighty God the Father to us.
