The Holy Face of Jesus is a devotion that invites us to reflect on the suffering, love, and mercy of Christ.

Most Catholics have seen the Holy Face image, but many do not know its history.

In 1958, Pope Pius XII established the Feast of the Holy Face of Jesus on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. He also approved the Holy Face Medal for Catholic devotion.

Why does this devotion matter?

Because it is closely connected to reparation. Reparation means offering prayer, love, and sacrifice in response to sin and the wounds it causes. Pope St. John Paul II described this mission as the “unceasing effort to stand beside the endless crosses on which the Son of God continues to be crucified.”

The Holy Face devotion is often associated with the Shroud of Turin. While the Church has not declared the Shroud authentic, many Christians see it as a powerful reminder of Christ's Passion.

One important detail:
The Holy Face connected to the Shroud is different from the Veil of Veronica. They come from different devotional traditions and are not the same image.

At its core, this devotion asks one question:
Will you look at the face of Jesus and respond to His love?

💬 When was the last time you spent even one minute looking at Jesus in prayer without asking Him for anything? What happened?

Before the Spanish built Manila, there was already a thriving kingdom on the banks of the Pasig River.
The Rajahnate of Maynila was a sovereign Indianized kingdom ruled by Rajah Sulayman, Rajah Matanda, and Rajah Lakandula when Spanish forces under Miguel Lopez de Legazpi arrived in 1571. It had trade connections reaching Borneo, Java, China, and the wider Malay world. It had a ruling class, a legal system, and gold.
Legazpi burned it down. Then he built Manila on the same ground.
They did not discover this place. They replaced it. Follow Philippines Raw — culture that never needs an apology.

"Whom God wishes to make very holy, He makes devoted to the Virgin Mary."
- Saint Louis de Montfort

This quote does not mean Mary replaces Jesus. It means that God often uses Mary to help people grow closer to her Son. At the wedding at Cana, Mary’s words were simple: “Do whatever He tells you” (John 2:5). That is still her mission today.

The saints loved Mary because she teaches humility, trust, obedience, and love for God. She is the perfect disciple of Christ. The more we learn from her example, the more we become like Jesus. A true devotion to Mary does not stop with Mary. It leads deeper into prayer, deeper into the Gospel, and deeper into a relationship with Christ.

Many people struggle with surrendering to God’s will. Mary shows us what a wholehearted “yes” looks like, even when life is difficult. That is why so many saints stayed close to her.

💬 Do you think devotion to Mary has brought you closer to Jesus, or is it something you still struggle to understand?

Someone you know may need this reminder today more than you realize. 🙏✝️
