The Graphic Literature Guild is officially kicking off 𝑮𝑼𝑰𝑳𝑫 𝑾𝑬𝑬𝑲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔! 🖤✨

We’re celebrating nearly 17 years of storytelling, art, and community. We’ve prepared a special week-long showcase to say a massive thank you to the incredible creators who built this organization as well as the passionate members keeping the fire burning bright today.

Watercolor art + Life Realizations 11/10 🌟

Komik Feature: Velbe's Journal by Velbe 🍄 D7 Philippine International Comics Festival, July 10-12

When I first saw Velbe’s Journal, the very first thing that caught my attention was its cover. Its cover was a watercolored artwork of a flower and I thought that it was lovely, which made me want to know more about what it was all about. (I’m a simple girl, I see a pretty cover, I read it!)

Velbe’s Journal is a series of standalone journal entries, each page containing different thoughts and realizations in life. Every entry made me pause for a while, making me ponder on the same realizations as the author had in their entry. Personally, I really, really loved how each page made me feel, since some of the entries really hit close to home. Some of the other entries could also even be realized if we just paused and observed our surroundings in this fast-paced
world.

I believe that Velbe’s Journal is something that you could read regardless of whether you are a teen or maybe even already an adult. It's one of those things that you can read again and again, having different interpretations of it as you also realize certain things in your life. If you’ve read it as a young teenager, you might have taken each entry as it is, or maybe not even understand what some of the entries meant. But reading them again when you’re older, you’ll realize that there was more to it than what you’d understood when you were younger.

If I were to rate Velbe’s Journal, I would give it an 11/10⭐️! I believe that everyone should give it a try. And who knows, maybe the reader themselves would also have their own realizations while reading this comic. :>>

🇵🇭 KOMIK FEATURE: Hawila Komiks by Mark Andrew De Ocampo

This comic truly reflects the creator's passion and dedication, especially through the depth of its research, storytelling, and character designs. Hawila Komik is another great example of how rich Philippine history and culture can inspire compelling stories and create a memorable Filipino hero. It show the immense potential of our own heritage as a source of meaningful and engaging narratives.

GLG Komik Review: "The Tikbala" by Ronaldo M. Reyes

This comic is very interesting to read not just through visuals but in its writing as well. It was very interesting to see how the author used Philippine mythological creatures as complex characters who are not entirely good but are not necessarily evil either, especially with the main character, Arayat Ibarra. You will also get to meet other mythological creatures that you might recognize once you start reading the book ;)

I love how the art is very detailed which you can see the effort put on by the artist through the
character designs as well as the backgrounds. The worldbuilding was fun to see as you read through the story. The map is also a very nice touch to immerse yourself further in the story. I was very immersed myself when I first read the comic and it amazed me to see how the story goes till the very end.

Overall, it was entertaining to read and I would love to see more stories like this. I highly recommend this book for those who love Philippine mythological creatures. It's a comic you won't regret to read. :D

The Tikbala is a comic about good and evil and the grey areas. The hero is an Ifugao-like warrior. battling, kapre, mananaggal, barangg, tiyanaks. and dwendes.
