Deadpool and Wolverine

They killed it.

Deadpool & Wolverine is how you resurrect a universe. The movie was irreverent like no other, brash as f*ck, indulgent to a fault, funny when it had to and touchy-feely when needed. It was nostalgic while looking forward. Felt like a violent passion project.

The movie was an antithesis to hero movies. It was the Anti-Avenger. We were made to look at our heroes from a certain gold standard POV. They were ideal. But Deadpool and Wolverine, they were…not. Their flaws (and claws) were highlighted as much as their pluses, if at all.

That made it fun. Real while unreal.

As the highest grossing R18 (for opening week) film of all time, the movie just explodes with adrenaline or**sm. The long wait for the two to team-up didn’t disappoint. That’s why this movie works. It lived-up to the over-hype.

Taking my fanboy s**z out of the equation, in hindsight, the story could have been more cutthroat (no pun intended). A casual movie-goer might get a bit confused with the references to past movies and series. It did get the job done considering the responsibilities placed upon the shoulders of this movie - to shake sh*t up while holding the fort down.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t diminish the fact that this movie is a visceral experience. The fun injected in the violence while trying to explain why so and so is so and so, that’s what you pay for. Watching your heroes come back to life and take lives to save lives, it’s lively.

I give this movie 4.8 Yebah Stars. I wanted to give it 5 stars but I couldn’t get over some details that I didn’t agree with (that’s you Channing Tatum). Considering the misses Marvel have put out since End Game, this was a bloody hell yeah! It is worth watching. Especially now that most people might have seen it already. Mas maluwag na siguro sa sine.

Unapologetic characters are pushed aside to be afterthoughts. They are usually designed as footnotes not lynch pins - much less to be spark plugs to kickstart a surge for something big.

The movie also says a lot about chances. You may seem dead and forgotten and buried and filleted. But all you need is just one shot, one opportunity to get everything you’ve ever wanted to live for. And show everyone that no matter how low it gets for you, nobody can go toe to toe with you. That even on their best day, they can’t handle you. You are a ferocious animal that needed to be planned for. And it will take everything they’ve got to do so.

Until the opportunity comes, you stay the course. Embrace your truth. Use that brash brass as fuel to power through. In spite of and despite of the unforgiving trajectory. That sense of purpose will save you, and your world. Wherever that may be.

Just like a prayer, it’ll take you there.
