📣Our final workshop for this series!📣

‘MOVING IMAGES’, a Pixilation workshop with Melvin Calingo (), will be held on 21 November 2026 at the lobby of the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez.

Aimed at students 15-18 years old, this is the third educational public program from Lines That Live: Larry Alcala at 100, a collaboration between the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the UP College of Fine Arts Department of Visual Communication, and the Larry Alcala Estate.

This workshop is an experimental take on “Moving Images” through stop motion by applying the principles of animation in Pixilation – a technique wherein real people and live environments are animated frame by frame. The workshop explores the foundational principles of animation that use people and props as animation assets in creating whimsical sequences that bend physical realities.

* The workshop is free but participants are required to bring a smartphone with a camera or a tablet with a camera to be able to do the activity.

Get to know the facilitator of our upcoming workshop ‘Line and Form’: Crown D. Dolot!

Crown is a Fine Arts graduate from the University of the Philippines and practices both visual arts and photography. She has represented the Philippines in various art forums, including the Asia-Europe Forum for Young Photographers in Paris in 2005, as well as the Asia Human Rights Folk School organized by the May 18 Foundation in South Korea in 2008.

Crown consistently emphasizes collective efforts in providing socially conscious art education, as reflected in her works from her time with Sining na Naglilingkod sa Bayan and the Concerned Artists of the Philippines, leading her to participate in collaborative projects centered on human rights and art advocacy. She eventually started organizing workshops for diverse participants, including members of marginalized communities, children, and members of institutions such as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

Professionally, she has taught painting and drawing at Kalayaan College and is currently a faculty member at the College of Fine Arts, University of the Philippines Diliman.

We are honored to have her share her skills and expertise with us in our three-part workshop series ‘Lines That Live: Larry Alcala at 100’, a collaboration between the Cultural Center of the Philippines (Cultural Center of the Philippines), the University of the Philippines’ College of Fine Arts Department of Visual Communication (UP College of Fine Arts), and the Larry Alcala Estate (Larry Alcala)!

‘Line and Form’ will be held on 22 September 2026 (Tuesday) from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the lobby of Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez.

Coming up on October 17th is ‘CARDBOARD CHARACTER’, a cardboard sculpture workshop with Sebastian “Baste” Cacho (Sebastian Cacho), at the lobby of the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez!

Aimed at students 15-18 years old, this is the second of three educational public workshops from Lines That Live: Larry Alcala at 100, a collaboration between the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the UP College of Fine Arts Department of Visual Communication and the Larry Alcala Estate.

This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the process of turning simple cardboard into creative 3D sculptures, such as characters, figures, and other forms. Guided step by step, participants will learn basic construction techniques and simple engineering principles such as structure, balance, and stability while developing their own sculpture ideas. Through making and experimentation, the workshop encourages creativity, problem-solving, and personal expression using simple tools and materials.

* All workshop materials are provided.
