His illustrious career began on April 10, 1942. Bencab's artwork is a unique blend of traditional Filipino elements and contemporary and international influences and has incredible mastery in painting, printmaking, and sculpture has solidified his reputation as a renowned and versatile artist.

Bencab holds a significant presence in the Philippine art landscape. His arts feature scenes of everyday Filipino life, landscapes, indigenous cultures and societal talks which foster a sense of pride and identity among Filipinos. He plays a big role in advocating arts in education.
