12:35 Saturday, February 28, 2026: I should stop this noise again inside my head. It’s telling me something again. I haven’t been able to reinforce my piece on LGBT, and now here I am again faced with a dilemma. Heart pounding, my fingers itching to write my brain out as, if I don’t, this may explode to a random fight with my wife, a coldness that’ll seep into my every action, or a boredom that I can’t quench just by watching my favorite anime or my hobby on writing novels. So, let me just write and be done with it.
Before I start this reflection, let me be clear first. This piece, again, is not a reflection of me being a Catholic. This is my own point of view, and not that of the Church. This, instead, is my reflection as a Filipino. This is also a reflection of a battle being waged not of spiritual but of politics. I may not be a political analyst, but I am a social scientist. I am not a blogger/vlogger but a writer. And now, I write not as the new Iscariot, but as a Judas. And, although this point of view will take something of the spiritual battles being waged, let me be clear that this is how I use sophistry. Still, with all this, I ask now as I may be seen as a total Judas: May the Almighty Father, in Christ Jesus, and the hovering of the Holy Spirit, with Our Mother Mary and the Saints, who were and will forever be true to Him, may guide this spear.
A Letter to the Filipinos, ICC, the Big Three: Russia, America and China, the SEAblings and those who may read this:
It has been almost a week since I started hearing, reading and reflecting this thing with my wife who is my only counsel now. And it’s been almost a year when I was able to discuss this with my too-eager, know-it-all, super-genius mom who is by the way a fan. This is about what happened to the former President Rody Duterte, or tatay Digong for short and this fiasco that is still going on and is being tuned in by the world. I may not be his fan (nope, I am truly not his fan. I opt to be seen and inclined with the late Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, and she was the one I voted for presidency) but this international circus ticks me off. Now, instead of me sitting quietly at home and happily writing my novels, I was kicked on the gut again and forced by this ‘whisper’ in my head to write something about this one. So I got no choice but to choose a side, reflect and then prioritize this first before my other reflections and novels. I hope someone pulls the rug off me as I may sound ridiculous again and off with what I am writing. Please feel free to bash.
A note from my idol senator
I was able to view one of the speeches of the late Senator Miriam and let me reiterate this as this is already said by Atty. Kaufman: the former PRRD should not be tried first by the ICC but by the Philippine court, and this is also cited by a retired judge of the Supreme Court. Now again, what does this entail? This, if I may borrow the late Senators words, a blatant insult to not only to the sovereignty of the Philippines but also a slap in the face of the Supreme Court of the Philippines! Just imagine: how many times did the legislative body tried to dress up like prosecutors and jurors? Some senators states: we can somehow bend the law?? Some even stated: the court is not familiar with the system of the legislature?? and you dare to call this country democratic?? What happened to the check and balance of the 3 bodies of the state?? And these supposed senators, who are not even lawyers, dares to question Supreme Court judges who have extensive knowledge and practice of the law and constitution?? I wouldn’t be surprised if my idol’s grave is turning right now because of this idiotic move! And now, you expect us to believe that the ‘turn-over’ of the case of FPPRD to The Hague is not politically motivated? Yeah, tell that to the 18 ex marines.
The Sophistry
I still weren’t able to watch the full ICC reading and hearing but I somehow got a few glimpses of it from posts by both the prosecution and the defendants. And one of the highlights that triggered me came from the speech/es of the prosecution. I don’t want to name names but I’d like to quote one that said: the EJK victims may be left “forever moored” if legal proceedings does not follow through. Funny thing is, this is supposed to be a battle between logical minds, not between a man of law and Shakespeare. But then again, I wouldn’t be able to write this one if not for this.
a. Drug War as the New Inquisition and Crusades
The Drug War was a WAR. And just like any other war, and I suggest that you watch films, documentaries and historical records about any war, there is always a chance to have casualties, even innocent ones. If I may be so bold as to say this: ANY AND EVERY WAR IS NOT AND WILL NEVER BE HUMANITARIAN! May it be a cold war, a civil war or a full-scale world war, a war is a war. Period. No sophist, dreamer, ideologist and even religious can prove otherwise. In a face of conflict, even innocents are not spared. Even during a friendly fire, a friendly can be shot dead. A simple road rage can lead to bloodshed. A spiritual battle gone wrong could be detrimental to health and even fatal. So, if we are to relate or to compare the Drug War with these ‘battles’, how do we put a scale to its chaos? In simplest terms, on a scale of 1 to 10, such battles ranges from just 1 to 3…and wars are 10…or worse.
I am really astounded to the point of absurdity, when one government official claimed that TOKHANG literally means to KILL. Now, as a Bisaya myself, I don’t know whether to laugh or to cry as the real purpose and meaning of TOKHANG or from its two etymological terms: TOKTOK (knock) and HANGYO (encourage) means a supposedly peaceful cry of: please surrender yourself for those addicts. And, if I may be so bold again, I would like to compare this to the Inquisition. It was recorded that, during those times, the Church was the one that served as inquisitor or the prosecutor while the State served as the judge and executor. And let us take note that, during those times, there are both guilty and innocents, wherein alchemist and scientist burned on the stake for being witches and such. Yet, in this TOKHANG which I now brand as the New Inquisition, was chock-full of guilty individuals than innocents.
And what of the Crusades? One of the posts I encountered stated that: if not for the Crusades, then much of the world would have become Muslims than Christians. Now, let me be bold again as to say and ask: if not for the TOKHANG, don’t you think we would be branded as NONCHALANT or BANGAG than FILIPINOS? If not for one man’s very bold and daring move that defied the press, that defied other countries’ call for ‘humanity’ while ignoring the stronger pleas of the innocents, then I…we never would have thought that illegal drugs and the omens they brought could possibly be reduced, even eradicated completely! In these times wherein: Russia suppressed Ukraine, Africa is still full of armed tribes, the Middle East is still the ‘land of terrorists’, and the Philippines is still just a canon-fodder, there was one bold man who stood up and said: WELCOME TO MY NEW CRUSADE! LET’S WAGE WAR ON DRUGS!
b. A Choice between Barabbas and Caiaphas
Let us be clearer here, yet this is still sophistry. As I was, again, able to review some of the viewpoints presented by both the prosecutors and the defendants in front of the ICC judges, I can’t help but compare this to a very philosophical question (and I think this can also be a theological question, but I don’t know. Again, I was not a theologian): if the choice during the trial of Pontius Pilate is between that of Barabbas and Caiaphas, who would you choose? Because, if you think about this fiasco of an international hearing more clearly, this is one of the very real questions that we can post for them judges.
I dare compare thus: that Barabbas are the supposed EJK victims and Caiaphas is Former PRRD. Let us then compare what most view of the two. Barabbas was said to be an apparent reckless and rebellious agent in the bible story. If you can see, most of the EJK victims presented are guilty of being Barabbas: addicts, pushers that resulted to most of them being thieves and even killers. And on the other ringside, a ‘self-proclaimed’ Caiaphas who almost said: let us sacrifice a few to save a nation.
Yet, this I wonder: why does some state that this is like a trial between saints/martyrs and a tyrant? This is absurdity! So, drug pushers or drug lords, if proven that they are somewhat like Robinhood that give free w**d, dope or coke to the less fortunate can be martyrs now? This is a joke right?? And not that funny. Now, ladies and gents, let this new Iscariot give you a kiss from Pontius Pilate: who will you free? Barabbas? Or Caiaphas? Is it worth it to give justice to Barabbas and not to Caiaphas? Let the first nail that will strike either be the one from the true voice. I wonder what happened to: VOX POPULI, VOX DEI?
c. Judas’ Kiss: Human Life or Human Rights?
This will not take long, since, as the title implies, this is a question: what is more important? Human Lives or Human Rights? It’s because, if you look closely on some of the posts about this, it seems that they are more in favor of rights than lives. What matters is that we are right. Forget if we are either alive or six feet under, as long as we have rights. Yeah, right. Tell that to those innocents who suffered under the hands of the addicts. Tell that to the loving families of those who were ruined because of drugs. And how will we believe your human rights if you are condemning someone who wants to bring down drugs that impede your so-called human rights? Because they too were victims? Because they were just doing those things for the sake of their rumbling stomachs? Yeah, right. As if a loaf of bread or canned sardines is way more expensive than a hit of coke or w**d, yeah? Or even a cigarette? Or a gin? Again, yeah right. Tell that to the ex-marines. DON’T US!
A Call of an Ordinary Filipino to the People and Nations
Thus, this is a call of an ordinary writer, a Filipino, who sees the true numbers here:
To Russia, China, North Korea, the Americas and especially to the SEAblings. Some of you are that of the ICC. Some are not. I, in behalf of the Filipinos who long to bring back the little of Filipino Pride we got due to this international fiasco, ask that you, who can force hands, intervene for us. Please intervene for our Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Please stop us from shaming our own country. Please give us back the person who we see as someone who can govern us with an IRON WILL. If my idol, Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago was the IRON LADY, give us back our IRON DRAGON. He may spout some profanities most of the time, but his genuine love for the Philippines is that of legends. The TRUE GEN. ANTONIO LUNA reincarnated as our former president. If you can give your disapproval to the Israel – Iran war, maybe you can do something for our former president too.
To my fellow Filipinos, both in and out of the country. Hear this! This is not a promise but a suggestion. That Sarah Duterte, as political analysts say, will surely win the elections no matter what the outcome in the Hague will be. And thus, I suggest: I’m formerly for former VP Leni Robredo as president, but upon thinking deeper, our country does not need a ‘super-homely’ president. And this I mean in a UK version, not an American version. What we need right now is another dragon, or a tiger. Hontiveros, unfortunately, is neither. So is Tulfo. So is Trillanes. Oh, did I mention that De Lima and Luistro are just a fingernail of Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago? So, the best bet: Sarah Duterte. A reflection of Davao’s, Mindanao’s and Bisaya’s finest. I’m not a troll. I’m definitely not a DDS. Heck, I even consider PRRD as inhumane! Inhumanely terrifying. Inhumanely profound. Inhumanely strategic. Yet, he deserves to be placed as a BAYANI as much as Antonio Luna and all others who risked a limb or two for this country.
