ASEAN QUIZ COMPETITION
ASEAN Month 2026 Celebration

The ASEAN Quiz Competition is an academic and knowledge-based activity designed to test participants' understanding of ASEAN history, geography, culture, institutions, member states, significant milestones, and contemporary regional cooperation.

OBJECTIVES

The competition aims to:
1. assess and enhance participants' knowledge of ASEAN and its member states;
2. promote awareness of ASEAN history, culture, geography, institutions, and regional cooperation;
3. encourage students, faculty, and staff to develop interest in Southeast Asian affairs;
4. promote critical thinking, teamwork, and healthy academic competition; and
5. strengthen the University's commitment to internationalization and global citizenship education.

PARTICIPANTS

The competition is open to:
โ€ข All teaching and non-teaching personnel of SNSUโ€“Malimono Campus; and
โ€ข All officially enrolled students of SNSUโ€“Malimono Campus.

Each team shall consist of three (3) members. Teams may be composed of students, faculty, or staff. A mixed team composed of students and personnel may also be allowed.

SCOPE OF THE QUIZ

Questions may cover the following areas:

1. ASEAN History and Formation
2. ASEAN Member States and Capitals
3. ASEAN Geography
4. ASEAN Flags, Symbols, and National Identity
5. ASEAN Culture, Languages, Traditions, and Heritage
6. ASEAN Institutions and Key Officials
7. ASEAN Community and Regional Cooperation
8. ASEAN Significant Milestones
9. ASEAN Economic, Social, and Political Cooperation
10. ASEAN and Sustainable Development Goals
11. ASEAN-related current and contemporary developments appropriate for an academic competition
12. Philippines' participation and contributions to ASEAN

COMPETITION MECHANICS

Round 1 โ€“ Easy Round
โ€ข The moderator shall read ten (10) questions.
โ€ข Each question shall carry one (1) point.
โ€ข Teams shall be given an appropriate amount of time to write their answers.
โ€ข Answers shall be displayed upon the signal of the moderator.

Round 2 โ€“ Average Round
โ€ข The moderator shall read ten (10) questions.
โ€ข Each correct answer shall earn two (2) points.
โ€ข Questions shall require greater recall, comprehension, and application of ASEAN-related knowledge.

Round 3 โ€“ Difficult Round
โ€ข The moderator shall read ten (10) questions.
โ€ข Each correct answer shall earn three (3) points.
โ€ข Questions shall cover more challenging and analytical aspects of ASEAN history, culture, institutions, and regional cooperation.

Final Ranking
1. The team with the highest accumulated score after all rounds shall be declared Champion.
2. The team with the second-highest score shall be declared 1st Runner-up.
3. The team with the third-highest score shall be declared 2nd Runner-up.
4. Scores shall be recorded and verified by the Tabulation Committee.
5. Only the official answer key approved by the Quiz Committee shall be used in determining correct answers.

TIE-BREAKER
In case two or more teams obtain the same final score, a Sudden-Death Round shall be conducted.
1. The moderator shall ask one question at a time.
2. Teams shall submit their answers within the prescribed time.
3. The first team to obtain a higher score after the tie-breaker shall be declared the higher-ranked team.
4. Additional tie-breaker questions shall be given until the ranking is resolved.

QUIZ RULES

1. Each team shall have exactly three (3) members.
2. Team members shall sit together in the designated area.
3. Electronic devices, mobile phones, smart watches, books, notes, and other reference materials shall not be allowed during the competition.
4. Team members may discuss answers only within the team during the designated answering period.
5. Once the answer has been submitted, it may no longer be changed unless allowed by the moderator.
6. Answers must be legible and must conform to the required answer format.
7. The moderator shall have the authority to clarify questions when necessary without giving clues to the answer.
8. Questions shall be prepared and validated by the Quiz Committee before the competition.
9. Any form of cheating or unauthorized assistance shall result in disqualification.
10. The decision of the Quiz Committee and Board of Judges shall be final.

The prizes shall be awarded to the members of each winning team:

All winning teams and members shall receive certificates of participation.

ASEAN CULTURAL DANCE COMPETITION
ASEAN Month 2026 Celebration

The competition provides an avenue for participants to showcase the rich traditional and contemporary dance traditions of Southeast Asia while promoting cultural appreciation, creativity, and ASEAN solidarity.

OBJECTIVES

The competition aims to:
1. promote appreciation of the traditional and contemporary dances of ASEAN Member States;
2. develop creativity, confidence, teamwork, and artistic expression among participants;
3. provide an avenue for the university community to showcase cultural talents;
4. strengthen awareness of ASEAN's diverse cultural heritage; and
5. foster unity, friendship, and intercultural understanding through dance.

PARTICIPANTS

The competition is open to all officially enrolled students of SNSUโ€“Malimono Campus. Each program can submit not more than two (2) entries. The competition shall consist of two (2) performers, preferably presenting a duo/duet or synchronized cultural dance performance.

COMPETITION MECHANICS

1. Each duo shall represent one ASEAN Member State through a traditional, folk, or culturally inspired dance.
2. The dance may be presented in its traditional form or through a contemporary interpretation, provided that the ASEAN cultural identity remains evident.
3. Each performance shall have a maximum duration of seven (7) minutes, including entrance and exit.
4. Participants may use appropriate costumes, props, and musical accompaniment.
5. The music and choreography must be appropriate for an educational institution.
6. Participants are encouraged to provide a brief explanation of the cultural origin and significance of their dance.
7. Costumes and movements must be culturally respectful and must not intentionally stereotype or ridicule any cultural, ethnic, or religious group.
8. Props must be safe and must not cause damage to the venue or pose danger to performers and spectators.
9. The Board of Judges shall evaluate the performance based on the approved criteria.
10. The decision of the judges shall be final and irrevocable.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Cultural Authenticity and Relevance โ€“ Accuracy and meaningful representation of the chosen ASEAN dance tradition - 30%

Choreography and Creativity โ€“ Organization, originality, transitions, and creative interpretation - 25%

Ex*****on and Synchronization โ€“ Coordination, timing, movement quality, and technical ex*****on - 20%

Costume and Overall Visual Presentation โ€“ Appropriateness, aesthetics, cultural relevance, and visual impact - 15%

Stage Presence and Audience Impact โ€“ Confidence, energy, projection, and overall appeal - 10%
TOTAL 100%

Tie-Breaking Rule:
In case of a tie, the higher score in Cultural Authenticity and Relevance shall prevail. If the tie remains, the score in Choreography and Creativity shall determine the winner.

AWARDS

The following shall be awarded (with prizes at stake):

ASEAN Month 2026 Celebration

The competition aims to celebrate ASEAN cultural diversity through music and encourage the university community to appreciate the musical traditions and contemporary cultural expressions of Southeast Asia.

OBJECTIVES

The competition aims to:
1. promote appreciation of the musical heritage and contemporary popular culture of ASEAN Member States;
2. encourage students to actively participate in ASEAN Month activities;
3. showcase the musical talents and creativity of the SNSUโ€“Malimono Campus community;
4. promote intercultural understanding and appreciation through music; and
5. strengthen the spirit of ASEAN unity, friendship, and cultural exchange.

PARTICIPANTS

The competition is open to all officially enrolled students of SNSUโ€“Malimono Campus. Each program can submit not more than two (2) entries. Participants must represent any ASEAN Member State through their selected song.

COMPETITION MECHANICS

1. The performer shall select a song associated with, written by, performed by, or culturally representative of an ASEAN Member State.
2. Songs may be performed in the original language of the ASEAN Member State, Filipino, English, or a combination thereof, provided that the performance has a clear ASEAN cultural connection.
3. Each performance shall have a maximum duration of five (5) minutes, including entrance and exit.
4. Participants may perform with live instruments or an approved instrumental/accompaniment track.
5. Participants may use simple props and appropriate costumes, provided that these do not compromise safety or unnecessarily delay the program.
6. The song and performance must be appropriate for a university setting.
7. Offensive, discriminatory, vulgar, or culturally disrespectful material shall not be permitted.
8. The decision of the Board of Judges shall be final and irrevocable.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Vocal Quality and Musicality โ€“ Pitch, tone, rhythm, harmony, and overall musical ex*****on - 30%

Cultural Relevance and ASEAN Connection โ€“ Clear representation and appreciation of an ASEAN country's musical or cultural identity - 25%

Creativity and Interpretation โ€“ Originality and artistic interpretation of the selected song - 20%

Stage Presence and Audience Impact โ€“ Confidence, projection, interaction, and overall performance - 15%

Overall Performance โ€“ Cohesion, preparation, and entertainment value - 10%
TOTAL - 100%

Tie-Breaking Rule:
In case of a tie, the higher score in Vocal Quality and Musicality shall prevail. If the tie remains, Cultural Relevance and ASEAN Connection shall be used as the second tie-breaker.

ASEAN COSTUME PARADE COMPETITION
ASEAN Month 2026 Celebration

The competition is one of the major highlights of the ASEAN Month 2026 Culmination Celebration of Surigao del Norte State University - Malimono Campus. It aims to showcase the rich cultural heritage, identity, traditions, and diversity of the ASEAN Member States through creative and culturally respectful costumes.

OBJECTIVES

The ASEAN Costume Parade Competition aims to:
1. promote awareness and appreciation of the diverse cultures, traditions, and identities of the ASEAN Member States;
2. encourage students, faculty, and staff to actively participate in the University's ASEAN Month celebration;
3. develop creativity, confidence, cultural appreciation, and intercultural understanding among participants; and
4.strengthen the University's commitment to internationalization, cultural diplomacy, and global citizenship.

PARTICIPANT CATEGORIES

The competition shall have two (2) categories:

A. Faculty and Staff Category
Open to all teaching and non-teaching personnel of SNSUโ€“Malimono Campus.

B. Student Category
Open to all officially enrolled students of SNSUโ€“Malimono Campus across all academic programs.

Each participant shall represent one (1) ASEAN Member State through his/her costume. Participants are encouraged to research and incorporate recognizable cultural elements, traditional attire, textiles, colors, accessories, symbols, or other appropriate representations of the ASEAN country they have chosen.

COMPETITION MECHANICS

1. Each participant shall register under either the Faculty and Staff Category or the Student Category.
2. Each participant shall choose one (1) ASEAN Member State to represent.
3. Costumes may be: traditional or indigenous-inspired attire; contemporary interpretations of traditional ASEAN clothing; culturally inspired fashion incorporating authentic ASEAN elements; or creative costume designs that clearly communicate the identity of the country being represented.
4. Participants are encouraged to use locally available, indigenous, recycled, upcycled, or affordable materials while maintaining cultural appropriateness and visual quality.
5. Participants shall avoid costumes, symbols, gestures, or accessories that may be considered offensive, stereotypical, disrespectful, or inappropriate to the culture or religion of the country represented.
6. Each participant shall prepare a brief introduction of not more than one (1) minute stating:
his/her name;
ASEAN country represented; and
a short explanation of the cultural significance or inspiration behind the costume.
7. During the parade, participants shall walk along the designated runway or presentation area and shall be given an opportunity to showcase their costume before the judges and audience.
8. The total presentation time shall not exceed two (2) minutes per participant, including the introduction.
9. Participants may use appropriate music or background audio corresponding to the country they represent, subject to prior submission and approval of the Technical Committee.
10. Costumes must be decent, culturally respectful, and appropriate for an educational institution.
11. The use of dangerous materials, sharp objects, flammable materials, fi****ms or weapon replicas, or other props that may pose a safety risk is strictly prohibited.
12. Participants shall be responsible for preparing, wearing, and maintaining their costumes during the competition.
13. The decision of the Board of Judges shall be final and irrevocable, subject to the contest rules and official tabulation.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Cultural Relevance and Authenticity โ€“ Accuracy and meaningful representation of the chosen ASEAN country's cultural identity, traditional attire, symbols, textiles, and other elements - 30%

Creativity and Originality โ€“ Innovative interpretation and creative presentation of the costume - 25%

Overall Costume Design and Visual Impact โ€“ Harmony, aesthetics, craftsmanship, color combination, accessories, and overall appearance - 20%

Presentation and Stage Presence โ€“ Confidence, posture, poise, projection, and ability to carry and present the costume effectively - 15%

Cultural Knowledge and Explanation โ€“ Accuracy, clarity, and relevance of the participant's brief explanation of the costume and its cultural significance - 10%
TOTAL - 100%

Tie-Breaking Rule:
In case of a tie, the participant with the higher score in Cultural Relevance and Authenticity (30%) shall be declared the winner. If the tie remains, the score in Creativity and Originality (25%) shall be considered.
