Our German language students and Library community came together for an evening of film and conversation as part of KinoFest Prelude, the lead-up to KinoFest 2026: German Film Festival this October.

The programme featured the German coming-of-age film Ach, diese Lücke, diese entsetzliche Lücke alongside the Filipino short film lola.psd. After the screenings, participants shared their thoughts and reflections on the films, with director Coby Mercado also joining the discussion to talk about lola.psd and his experience making the film.

KinoFest Prelude leads up to KinoFest 2026, happening October 15–18 at GH Ortigas Cinemas, Greenhills Mall.

📸 IN PHOTOS: Special Program in Foreign Language (SPFL) Local Immersion Program | September 7-11

Organized by the Bureau of Curriculum Development of the Department of Education, the immersion program took place in Makati City and brought together SPFL teachers and key partners from across the country and abroad.

Representing the Goethe-Institut Philippinen were Oliver Phan-Müller, Deputy Director and Head of Language Department; Jellaine Buen-Melgar, Coordinator for Educational Cooperation; Erika Lei Dacurawat, Project Manager for Mein Weg nach Deutschland; along with colleagues from DAAD and the German Embassy.

The conference served as a platform for exchanging insights on the SPFL program, sharing best practices, and discussing innovations, trends, opportunities, and challenges in foreign language education. Participants represented the SPFL languages of Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Korean.

Throughout the week-long immersion, the Goethe-Institut presented the SPFL German program and highlighted its close collaboration with the Department of Education in delivering quality and targeted educational content. Sessions also showcased German culture, learning opportunities in Germany, and the work of the German Embassy.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Bureau of Curriculum Development for organizing this meaningful program and for the valuable insights gained through participation. We look forward to continuing our cooperation in promoting German as part of the SPFL program. 🇩🇪🇵🇭
