As we progress through our 2026 journey, allow me to share the progress I made last year waaah. I posted this already in instagram so you may check 'em out through the link below. ๐Ÿ˜‰

2025 gave me lotsa unexpected twists and turns, especially in rediscovering what I can do and what I still could do. I mean, who would have thought I would actually go for BS Digital Illustration and Animation as my second degree? Crazy, right?

Truth is, art has always been close to my heart. I grew up surrounded by my dadโ€™s huge paintings and charcoal works at home. He has been my greatest and worst critic at the same time, HAHAHA, so I am really grateful that he has been happy and supportive of this new journey I decided to take. Maybe because, in a way, this fulfills his old dream of pursuing art (Fine Arts or Animation, instead of Engineering waaaah).

I never thought I would be able to do all of this in just about four months, especially after not drawing anything for more than a year. College and post grad life really said pause.

So yeah, here are my traditional drawings from my first semester in ADNU BS DIA. I posted some of these before, but most of my works haven't made it to the internet yet so...TADA!!! I hope you like these little projects as much as I do, each one reflecting my slow but steady progress. All the detailed breakdown and special notes for each artworks are all available in my Instagram acct.

(I'll post my digital works some time on Feb na, I guess ๐Ÿฅนโœจ)

As mentioned earlier, we werenโ€™t able to be at Xavier Hall a while ago due to unforeseen circumstances and other commitments. Unfortunately, because of an unavoidable schedule set for our block tomorrow, we wonโ€™t be able to set up our booth for the last day of the Ateneo Arts and Algorithms Festival either ๐Ÿ˜”

But lo and behold. To everyone interested in checking out or purchasing our merch, weโ€™re planning to open and accept online orders of our on-hand items hopefully before this month ends, so keep an eye out. ๐Ÿ‘€

On behalf of Team Siksik Labuyo, huge thanks to the organizers, especially to the Pioneers of Ignatian Expressive Electronic Arts and Learning Society, for giving us artists the avenue and opportunity to showcase and sell our works during this yearโ€™s Ateneo Arts and Algorithm Festival.

Even at this age and as someone whoโ€™s already finished a degree, I honestly felt like a kid again, with a rekindled spark for creativity from seeing so much passion among fellow creatives and everyone around me. It fires me up even more to keep growing and improving as I pursue my second degree here in DIA ๐Ÿฅน

Thank you so much to everyone who dropped by our booth, shared stories, and supported us along the way. You guys made the experience extra memorable ๐Ÿซถ

Day 1 wrapped!!!

From the quiet morning rush to the steady flow of curious faces, every interaction made the booth come alive. Stepping into this event as both a DIA student and a Siksik Labuyo artist felt like standing on two stages at onceโ€”tโ€™was so SUPEEEERRRR surreal (insert Frankyโ€™s voice HAHAHA) yet incredibly fulfilling. Itโ€™s not every day you get to share your craft in the same halls where you study, surrounded by people who just get it.

And to that young creative soul who dropped by and asked a few questions, if youโ€™re reading this, I hope I was able to ease a bit of your worries about the path weโ€™re taking. I may not have firm footing in the industry yet, nor a long list of DIA experiences, but as an Ate and a fellow creative wanderer who started boothing back in 2019 and eventually took a leap around 2023 to offer commissions while studying, I genuinely hope my words reached you.

The personal style youโ€™re looking for, the tips to make your works โ€œlook goodโ€โ€”youโ€™ll find them along the way as you grow in this journey. It might take time, and maybe you wonโ€™t even have a distinct style right away, but thatโ€™s okay. Confidence builds slowly. One day, youโ€™ll create and share your works without hesitation, fully embracing your skills and voice. Art made with love, shaped by your personality, advocacies, and soul, is what makes it โ€œthe best.โ€ No AI or tech can take away the human touch behind every concept, every brush stroke, every finished piece that carries a part of you.

Lo and behold, the future is ours. May your doubts clear little by little, and may you keep making art not for how others may see it, but for what makes you feel happy and most like yourself. You can also draw inspiration and motivation from our seniors and professors whoโ€™ve walked this path before us.

Apologies for the lengthy captionโ€”got a bit carried away ๐Ÿ˜… That Q&A caught me off guard because those were my exact questions once (and honestly, still are). I remember asking the same things to one of our professors during a one-on-one consultation a few weeks ago.

Man, that little moment yesterday honestly made my Day 1 extra special. Also, TYSM for buying my Naruhina Prints!! ๐Ÿฅบ So yuh, see yโ€™all later for Day 2 at Xavier Hall. Letโ€™s share small conversations and celebrate the space where art and technology collide!!!

Itโ€™s been more than a month since your untimely passing, but the silence still echoes sharp and deep within the void you unwillingly left in us.

DIA Lab 4 grew quieter and emptier for a whileโ€”and in some ways, it still does. Yet slowly, light has begun to return, with your colleague now guiding us with the same heart and devotion you poured into your craft. Though your presence will always be uniquely your own, we find comfort knowing that the spirit of your teaching continues to live on through those whoโ€™ve chosen to carry the torch forward.

We deeply miss your jokes, your energy, and above all, the lessonsโ€”not only in photography, the arts, and the SciMath topics you loved to shareโ€”but more importantly, the truths about life and reality you imparted before you left.

Personally, Iโ€™ve often felt these constant urges to prove myself, even at the worst times. I take extra effort just to keep up with everyoneโ€™s pacing and skillsets, sometimes questioning if I truly deserve this spotโ€”especially since I came in with only a strong eagerness to learn and a degree far from what Iโ€™m pursuing now.

But meeting you, Sir, though brief, came at just the right time. You helped me calm down and find my footing. You made me believe that I can do this and that I deserve the trust you gave us. I owe so much of this journey to you, our late Chairperson, Sir Mark.

Thank you for welcoming us with so much warmth and inspirationโ€”for making space not only for the honed and experienced, but also for those still lacking yet eager to grow every day.

Your deep passion and dedication to the DACA Department, along with your trust and support for the next generation of creatives, helped many of us find a home in a community we once thought was far beyond our reach.

Truly, you were a master not just in your field but in the way you awakened our minds, stirred our curiosity, and rekindled our drive to learn. May we carry on in ways that will make you proud of how far weโ€™ve come, and of how the legacy you left has blossomed into something far greater than what money could ever buy.

Brighter days are still ahead. You may have left too soon, but your optimism and memories continue to resonate within us.

May the void you unwillingly left be filled not with sorrow, but with the joy and inspiration you brought to everyone. And even in your absence, we'll carry on and hope that one day we can make you proud of how far weโ€™ve come.

So, to the man whom I deeply respect, and who showed me the true essence of a passionate educator, Happy Teacherโ€™s Day!!! This may be a day late, but itโ€™s something that time could never dull, the indelible flame youโ€™ve lit in our hearts. Requiescat in pace and โ€™til we meet again, Sir Mark, God willing. ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ“ธ

Throwback to the photos I took for a local radio station in Naga City last year during Peรฑafrancia Fest Week. I didnโ€™t get the chance to cover this yearโ€™s event because of a pretty loaded week with art school backlogs (WOW OA SA ART SCHOOL, YAN SHA!).

That last slide was actually supposed to be my money shot entry for a competition here in Naga, but I got too busy with my personal endeavors to work on the narrative behind the photo and its relation to the theme. Ended up pulling out of the comp LMAO (might post the final narrative I wrote days after the deadline tho, so yuh).

Disclaimer: I took these purely as a photojournalist / photographer for the station. Did not join the procession nor participate as a devotee (just to clear things up).

Fun fact: Nueva Cรกceres is actually the old name of Naga City, one of the original royal cities during the Spanish era. โœจ

Itโ€™s been a week since I tried something new again, and I canโ€™t help but feel so grateful for that last-minute decision!! It was all worth it!!! Iโ€™m glad to have been an avenue to help our beneficiaries through this charity event too. Def a win-win situationโ€”learning so much while also giving a bit of what I have to those in need through this initiative. Great move Ateneo!!

To be honest, Iโ€™ve been thinking so hard about joining upon seeing the posts from ADNU. At first, I was hesitant because of the registration fee and my prelim exams schedule around the event date. I was also afraid to take a more serious step on what I love doing and explore another field far from what I usually do.

Never have I imagined myself working or shooting in the setting of love, champagne, and wedding bells. Despite my hesitations, I pushed through with courage. The atmosphere upon entering the room felt so different. I was indeed surrounded not by hobbyists but professionals who have honed their skills for quite some time.

In commemoration of the person I look up to and have so much respect for who just recently passed away, I owe this chapter to you. It was a whole other level of doing shoots with tons of room for creativity and new ways of framing moments. I did my part, but honestly, I REALLY STILL HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO. I wasnโ€™t satisfied with my outputs, wasnโ€™t in my full headspace, and was even about to cry during the session remembering more โ€œcould havesโ€ and โ€œwould haves.โ€

I had many questions and plans to consult by the end of the semester. Unfortunately, I wonโ€™t be able to do those anymore. Regret still lingers for holding back and hoping for โ€œanother time.โ€ But Sir, guess whatโ€”I was able to let out one of the questions I ought to ask you the last time we met. Nervous as I was, I stood up in front of everybody with shaky knees and a cracking voice. It was a relief to tick off one of the things I wouldโ€™ve asked you.

Even with 7 years of experience as a hobbyist, photojournalist, street/lifestyle, and now freelance photographer, I must still say, โ€œMalayo na, pero malayo pa.โ€ Iโ€™m still thinking if I should be serious about entering this industry soon, but for now, Iโ€™m glad to have had at least a glimpse of this chapter outside my comfort zone.

I was indeed enchanted to meet you and everyone who made this event possible!! It was my deepest honor to meet wedding, fashion, and travel photography industry legends Sir PAT DY and Sir Nelwin Uy!! Thank you for sharing such insightful discussions on how you do your works. Your stories were inspiring, especially how Sir Nelwinโ€™s single interaction in a camera marketplace, born out of simple curiosity, has led him to where he is now: traveling the world while professionally doing what he loves. I canโ€™t help but feel the grit and fire burning in me, eager to one day make it to where Iโ€™m destined to be. With enough practice and hard work, I swore to become a better version of myself in the months and years to come.

Special thanks to everyone who made this possible including Nanlite Philippines, Canon Philippines, and of course, Ateneo de Naga University for offering discounts and catering to the interests of ADNU students and staffs in photography.

Itโ€™s been a while since I did serious trad sketches. I tried so hard to finish these as fast as I could, but bruhโ€ฆ hahaha, I still ended up uploading them 6 minutes past the deadline shdhdh.

While finalizing my last activity last night, I couldnโ€™t help but miss the good old drafting days back in high school. Too bad I wasnโ€™t able to take it for two years before leaving Junior High and ended up going for culinary in TLE instead.

Anyway, I had so much fun doing theseโ€”well, except for the gesture drawings and blind contours (they got me palpitating even without coffee HAHAHAHA).

My skills, strokes, and everything else in between are still works in progress. These sketches came to life after more than a year of not doing any art after all (whether for the shop or for personal satisfaction). ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘Š

So hereโ€™s to more weeks and months of training thy muscle memory and learning to do art as naturally as breathing on a daily basis :>

Everyoneโ€™s on their โ€œBack to Hogwartsโ€ moment todayโ€”and while I didnโ€™t get my Hogwarts letter, I do have something magical to look back on. ๐Ÿฆ‰๐Ÿช„

One of my fave shoots from last year was this super fun (and a little experimental ๐Ÿ‘€) birthday set we did right in her own bedroom, using my trusty Canon RP paired with the nifty fifty RF 50mm STM lens from Canon Philippines.

Shoots like this remind me why I love capturing peopleโ€™s best sides through the lens of Art by Pineleappleโ€”because every shoot has its own kind of magic.

Belated Happy Birthday, Ms. Ibo! Thank you for trusting my creative perspective to bring your cute birthday ideas to life a year ago. And of course, huge thanks to my girlies Dani and Joy for helping out with the setup and glam of our birthday star! ๐Ÿ’…โœจ
