Hello 👋🏼 daan po kayo 🦌✨

Adventures from far and wide grace the magical world of Jheng Dela Cruz, more popularly known as Two Front Teeth. Her works are often a sight for nostalgia, evoking feelings of joy and whimsical stories. With the help of “Deer Boy,” audiences are transported to vast and magnificent places that allow them to revisit their own dreams and experiences.

In her solo show, “Perpetual Movement,” Two Front Teeth’s imaginative prowess shines through, and with the help of “Deer Boy," we are once again whisked into a world that is both familiar and surprising. With countless stories that have been told, Deer Boy once again proves that there are still places yet to be seen and moments that can still be found. Continuous and unceasing adventures await us in this wonderful solo-show unveiling on March 14, 2024, at Art Elaan.

Join us for our opening reception on March 14, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. For more information, please follow our Facebook and Instagram pages.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” – Isaiah 40:31

I’ve been exhausted lately due to daily mundane of life. This piece is a symbol of renewed strength and hope to face new challenges ahead ⚡️⚡️

Sing Yesterday for Me
2nd Solo Show

“…In her solo exhibition titled, Sing Yesterday for Me, Two Front Teeth expands her artistic vision while becoming more specific. We get glimpses of images that could have been plucked from our own childhood: paper boats, puppies, and cupcakes, but also scratches and band-aid. While Two Front Teeth celebrates adolescent pleasures, she also hones in on solitude, usually made more evident by a stark background. Here then are secret celebrations, a tribute to the strange child who has found joy on her own.”

SING YESTERDAY FOR ME
Two Front Teeth
Solo Exhibition
September 3, 2022
📍Space Encounters Gallery

Nostalgia is tricky and overwhelming. It’s a reflex reaction to everything digital and fast changing, and we are helplessly drawn to flashbacks, to remakes, to reboots. Jheng has managed to filter our collective yearning for simpler times on canvas as Two Front Teeth.

Two Front Teeth is both the art and the artist, a mix of Jeff Lemire comic book anthropomorphism and innocence, in gestures, rituals, and landscapes taken from artist’s memory. In her solo exhibition titled, Sing Yesterday for Me, Two Front Teeth expands her artistic vision while becoming more specific. We get glimpses of images that could have been plucked from our own childhood: paper boats, puppies, and cupcakes, but also scratches and band-aid. While Two Front Teeth celebrates adolescent pleasures, she also hones in on solitude, usually made more evident by a stark background. Here then are secret celebrations, a tribute to the strange child who has found joy on her own.

The artist specifically singled out this quote from writer and philosopher Alain de Botton, “Most of our own childhood is stored not in photos, but in certain biscuits, lights of day, smells, textures of carpet.” In Sing Yesterday for Me, it's in the grass, in the first bite of icing; it’s in the folds paper as the sun shines above. The artist says that it’s in the memories of these lazy days that conjure feelings of home, and she hopes the audience will find their own version of home in her art as well.

At the center of the exhibition is a stunning four-foot sculpture of Two Front Teeth with a bird perched on its fingers, happy as only a child could be. It’s easy to imagine it singing contentedly to some made up tune.

Feel free to sing along.
