wrote this cute ugly poem for dolly the night i found out she passed away.
i didn’t grow up with all of dolly’s music, but when i was a kid, our eldest sister bought us our very first family computer. while exploring encarta, i stumbled upon dolly parton’s article page and heard her sing “coat of many colors.”
i was just a kid (maybe about 10 yrs old), but her voice and that guitar strums gave me chills and joy and taught me something i would carry with me: that true wealth is a life filled with love.
even though dolly belonged to a generation before mine, she touched my life and helped shape the kind, loving person i aim to become.
this poem is for you, dolly. 🤍
