Robertines, get to know the cast of MJAGSC's excerpts from Once On This Island!

Erzulie, the Goddess of Love in Once on This Island, is a benevolent and radiant deity who embodies compassion, kindness, and the power of true love. In the musical, she plays a crucial role in Ti Moune’s journey, blessing her with an unshakable love that will be tested by fate and the gods.

In Caribbean Vodou (or Voodoo) tradition, Erzulie is revered as the loa (spirit) of love, beauty, and femininity. She is often depicted as graceful and elegant, associated with sweetness, romance, and motherly care. Many worshipers honor her with gifts of perfume, flowers, and luxurious fabrics, seeking her blessings for love and harmony in their lives.

Erzulie will be played by Charlyn Joy Hitosa, a Grade 11 ABM student. Charlyn is also a member of Himig Robertino.

Once On This Island excerpts play on April 3, 2025, at Robinson's Place Jaro.

Robertines, get to know the cast of MJAGSC's excerpts from Once On This Island!

Agwe, the God of Water in Once on This Island, is a powerful and majestic deity who commands the seas, bringing both life and destruction through storms and waves. In the musical, he plays a pivotal role in shaping the destiny of the protagonist, Ti Moune, by testing her resilience against nature’s might.

In Caribbean Vodou (or Voodoo) tradition, Agwe is revered as the loa (spirit) of the ocean, marine life, and fishermen. He is often depicted as a dignified and commanding figure, sailing a grand ship across the seas. Believed to protect travelers and those who depend on the ocean, Agwe is honored with offerings of food and rum, sometimes placed on small boats and sent adrift as a tribute.

Agwe will be played by J-lou Salinas, a Grade 11 STEM student. Audiences can also look forward to seeing J-lou in the upcoming Ilonggo comedy film With Love, Bridgit.

Last February 22, 2025, at Robertine Champion Hall, we had an incredible learning experience during the "How to Sing Better: The Basics" workshop! This was facilitated by two of our former SRIC Himig Robertino presidents, Tomme Wellart Marcelo and Niño Castro, who generously shared their knowledge and expertise.

🎤 Mr. Tomme discussed frequently used music terminologies -- particularly in singing and essential vocal preparations, including warm-ups and warm-downs, to help MJAG trainees avoid vocal tension and strains which can maintain vocal health during tranings.

🎭 Mr. Niño focused on preparatory techniques from the theater perspective, ensuring that singers and actors/actresses avoid facial and body tension during their training—incorporating vocal warm-ups and warm-downs as crucial steps.

A huge thank you to Ms. Jica Calusay, Himig Robertino’s Musical Director, for allowing them to share this workshop with everyone in preparation for the MJAG year-end production. We hope this session will help our trainees grow and improve in their singing journey. Until next time! 🎶💙
