Saint María Guadalupe García Zavala, lovingly known as Mother Lupita, was a Mexican religious sister and co-founder of the Handmaids of Santa Margherita Maria and the Poor. Born in 1878 in Zapopan, Mexico, she felt called to religious life at the age of 23 and ended her engagement to dedicate herself completely to serving Jesus through caring for the poor and the sick. As a nurse and leader of her congregation, she embraced a life of poverty, often begging for food and resources to support her patients.

During the persecution of the Catholic Church in Mexico, Mother Lupita courageously sheltered priests and church leaders while continuing to care for everyone in need, including wounded government soldiers. Her compassion and selfless service earned widespread respect and protection for her hospital. She died in 1963 after a long illness and was later recognized as a saint, being beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2004 and canonized by Pope Francis in 2013. Today, she is honored as the patron saint of nurses and Mexico’s second female saint.

🙏🏿: Prayer to Saint María Guadalupe García Zavala

O Saint María Guadalupe, "Mother Lupita,"
You spent your life on earth as a faithful servant to the sick and the abandoned, always seeing the face of Jesus Christ in the suffering. You chose a life of poverty so that others could be rich in comfort and care.

Through your powerful intercession, grant me a heart like yours—full of compassion, courage, and unconditional love. Shield and guide all nurses and healthcare workers, giving them strength in times of exhaustion and tenderness in times of grief.

(Mention your personal request here...)

Help me to face the trials of life with the same unwavering trust in God that you displayed during times of deep hardship and persecution. May I always serve my brothers and sisters with a joyful spirit.

Amen.

Saint María Guadalupe García Zavala,

Prayer to Saint John the Baptist

O Holy Saint John the Baptist,
Greatest of prophets and herald of the Lamb of God,
You spent your life in the wilderness preparing the way for Christ.

Grant me the courage to speak the truth,
The humility to always point others toward Jesus,
And the strength to repent of my sins.

Watch over me and guide my steps closer to the Savior.
Pray for me, that I may faithfully fulfill God's will on earth
Just as you did, even unto death.

Amen.

The Nativity of St. John the Baptist, celebrated on June 24, honors the miraculous birth of the prophet who prepared the way for Jesus Christ. According to the Gospel of Luke, John was born to Zechariah and Elizabeth, an elderly couple who had been unable to have children. His birth was announced by the Archangel Gabriel, and his mission was revealed even before birth when he leaped in Elizabeth’s womb at Mary’s greeting.

This feast holds deep liturgical meaning because it is placed six months before Christmas, reflecting the Gospel’s account that Elizabeth was already six months pregnant when Jesus was conceived. Its timing near the summer solstice also symbolizes John’s words about Christ: “He must increase, but I must decrease.” Thus, the celebration points beyond John himself to the coming of Jesus, the true light of the world.

🙏🏿: “O God, who raised up Saint John the Baptist to make ready a nation fit for Christ the Lord, give your people, we pray, the grace of spiritual joys and direct the hearts of all the faithful into the way of salvation and peace.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.”

A Prayer for School Protection

Heavenly Father,
We come to You today to place our students, teachers, and schools into Your hands. We ask for Your powerful protection over every classroom, hallway, and campus.

Protect every student and staff member from physical harm, danger, and violence. Be a shield around the school grounds, ensuring it remains a safe haven for learning, growth, and community.

In a world filled with distractions and anxieties, grant our students peace. Protect them from bullying, loneliness, and the pressure to conform. Give them the courage to stand up for what is right, and fill the school with an atmosphere of kindness and respect.

Bless the teachers, administrators, and support staff with wisdom, patience, and discernment as they guide these young minds. Give them the strength to lead with love and the alertness to keep everyone safe.

We lift up this school year to You, trusting in Your grace and watchful care.
Amen.

Saint Joseph Cafasso (1811–1860) was a compassionate Italian Roman Catholic priest and academic who, despite living with a severe congenital spinal deformity, dedicated his life to uplifting the most marginalized souls in 19th-century Turin. Recognized globally as the patron saint of prisoners and the condemned, Cafasso routinely entered notorious, hazardous state prisons to offer dignity, counseling, and spiritual reconciliation to thieves and murderers. He directly accompanied over 60 men to the scaffold, spending the nights leading up to their executions praying inside their cells to guide them toward deep spiritual transformation.

Beyond his prison ministry, Cafasso was an influential educator who served as the Rector of the Convitto Ecclesiastico. His profound legacy includes a 25-year mentorship of St. John Bosco, whom he financially supported and steered toward establishing the Salesian Congregation for impoverished youth. Remembered as a master of priestly holiness, Cafasso’s enduring spiritual teaching emphasizes that true sanctity does not require extraordinary feats, but rather the faithful, consistent practice of ordinary, daily virtues.

🙏🏿: Prayer to Saint Joseph Cafasso

O Holy Saint Joseph Cafasso,
You were a true father to the forgotten, a comforting brother to the prisoner, and a gentle guide to the lost.

You who looked upon the most hardened hearts with the merciful eyes of Christ, look down upon me with that same compassion.

Teach me to perform my daily duties with great love. Guide me to be a source of hope to those in despair. Grant me the grace to always seek God’s mercy, and help me to bring peace to those around me.

[Mention your specific request or intention here]

Through your powerful intercession, may I live a life of simple holiness, and one day join you in eternal praise.

Amen

Saint Thomas More (1478–1535) was a distinguished English lawyer, scholar, author, and statesman who served as Lord Chancellor under King Henry VIII. A leading figure of Renaissance humanism, he is best known for his influential work Utopia (1516), which envisioned an ideal society and helped shape political and social thought. Recognized for his wisdom, integrity, and learning, More is honored today as the patron saint of statesmen, politicians, civil servants, and lawyers. His feast day is celebrated on June 22.

More’s lasting legacy is rooted in his steadfast commitment to conscience and faith. He refused to support King Henry VIII’s divorce from Catherine of Aragon and later rejected the Act of Supremacy, which declared the king head of the Church of England. As a result, he was imprisoned, tried for treason, and executed in 1535. Before his death, he famously declared, “I die the king’s good servant, but God’s first.” Canonized in 1935, Thomas More remains a powerful symbol of moral courage, religious conviction, and ethical leadership.

🙏🏿: Prayer to Saint Thomas More

Saint Thomas, counselor of law and
statesman of integrity, merry martyr and most
human of saints:

Pray that, for the glory of God and in the
pursuit of His justice, I may be trustworthy with
confidences, keen in study, accurate in analysis,
correct in conclusion, able in argument, loyal to
clients, honest with all, courteous to adversaries,
ever attentive to conscience. Sit with me at my
desk and listen with me to my clients' tales.
Read with me in my library and stand always
beside me so that today I shall not, to win a
point, lose my soul.

Pray that my family may find in me what
yours found in you: friendship and courage,
cheerfulness and charity, diligence in duties,
counsel in adversity, patience in pain—their
good servant, and God's first.

Amen.
