Director with Master Art Geroche, the man behind the Hinilawod mural at the lobby of the Cultural Center. Sadly Master Geroche's reaction was one of sadness when his saw masterpiece in a sorry state. Help spread intellectualism, culture and an appreciation of the arts, in whatever form it may be!

Greetings to all. Management would like to thank the fans and likers of the Cultural Center but there is a pressing need for the dissemination of information and further the appreciation of culture, history and arts among students. More than its structural aspect, we have yet to see a consistent performance of cultural, artistic and historical expressions at the WVSU Cultural Center. Let us combine such complementary elements as structure and substance so as to truly say that the existence of this center may have far reaching, positive consequences not just on the physical but in the intellectual aspect as well. Let us promote, History, Culture and the Arts at the Cultural Center! Thank you very much.

Miss Paraw Regatta coronation night on Feb. 18

The now region-wide Miss Iloilo Paraw Regatta 2015 grand coronation night is set on Feb. 18, 7 P.M. at the West Visayas State University Cultural Center where 19 candidates will be vying for the much-coveted title.

The candidates, who will represent their respective provinces in Western Visayas, were chosen from a series of auditions conducted from October to December.

More than just being a competition, Miss Iloilo Paraw Regatta 2015 also serves as a venue to showcase the relevance of women in preserving cultural heritage.

The candidates were also trained and inspired to pursue significant advocacy that could help elevate social change with an important vision: embracing the past, the present and the future. They were also taught to become ambassadress of goodwill in preserving the environment and take part in the promotion of the region as the next future investment and tourism destination.

These advocacies were manifested in the inclusion of new competition categories in the pageant such as the “Trash to Class” gown competition where trash materials are transformed into elegant wardrobes; submission of video advocacy from the candidates stating their chosen passion or goals that inspires social change; and a written examination about the Paraw Regatta Festival facts and Iloilo City’s cultural heritage.

Another breakthrough in this year’s competition is the launching of its own original theme song with music video performed by reigning Miss Iloilo Regatta 2014 Queen, Janica Ella Hondrade and 1st Runner-up Ahriana Lovely Huyaban.

Two of Iloilo’s most in-demand fashion designers, Hector “Totong” Gellagarin and Carlo Simoy will showcase their colorful evening gown creations in the pageant. The pageant’s stage choreography will be directed by Romy Bugna, while Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation, Inc. chairman Manuel Villa and chairman for Special Events, Tres Solis serve as the pageant’s executive producers.

This year’s Miss Iloilo Paraw Regatta pageant is co-organized by the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation, Inc. and the City Government of Iloilo in cooperation with the Province of Iloilo and the Department of Tourism-6.
