Kansalakan River: The Enchanting Hidden Gem of Guihulngan City 🌊✨

Hidden within the lush highland barangays of Guihulngan City lies a paradise that feels like it’s straight out of a dream. The Kansalakan River—famous for its breathtaking, crystal-clear "Enchanted" stretch—is calling all eco-tourists, cliff-jumpers, and nature lovers who crave an escape from the ordinary.

Whether you're looking for the thrill of a high jump or just want to bask in the serenity of nature, this is your next must-visit destination in Negros Oriental! 🌿🏞️

🎒 Travel Tips for Your Adventure:
Safety First: The water in the main pools and "The Eye" is exceptionally deep. If you aren't a strong swimmer, a life vest is a non-negotiable must-have.

Go with a Guide: We highly recommend hiring a local guide from the barangay. They know the terrain best and will help you navigate safely to the best spots.

Timing is Key: The best time to experience that famous emerald clarity is during the dry season. Always check weather conditions before heading out, as the river can change quickly with heavy rain.

Pack Right: Wear reliable water shoes for the rocky riverbeds, and don't forget your dry bag to keep your gear safe!

Be a Responsible Traveler: Let’s keep this gem pristine. Practice "Leave No Trace"—take only pictures, leave only footprints, and bring all your trash back with you. 🍃

Tag your favorite adventure buddy who is ready to take the plunge into the "Eye"! 👇

Planning your trip and need a local connection? Send the Guihulngan City Post a message—we’re here to help you experience the best of our city!

Escape the hustle and reconnect with nature at the beautiful Mt. Kalatkat! ⛰️

Whether you're chasing stunning views or just need a breath of fresh air, this trail in Guihulngan City is the perfect adventure.
So grateful to share this experience with Maria Ellah Estorco and Iza Navarro! Truly a trek to remember. 🌿✨

Mt. Kalatkat is a beautiful, lesser-known mountain destination located in the western part of Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental. Rising to nearly 1,000 meters above sea level, it is a favorite spot for local mountain climbers, campers, and nature enthusiasts drawn to its cool climate, scenic views, and rich biodiversity.

The name "Kalatkat" is a Visayan word meaning "to climb up.

How to Get There ? ❗️

Reaching Guihulngan City: If you are coming from Dumaguete City, you can take a bus bound for San Carlos City or Canlaon City and ask the conductor to drop you off in Guihulngan City (travel time is typically 3–3.5 hours).

Reaching the Mountain: Mt. Kalatkat spans several barangays, including Mabunga, Balogo, T. Hill, and Magsa. Since public transportation options to the specific trailheads can be limited, it is best to coordinate with local tourism offices or seek assistance from local guides.

What to Provide/BringHiking Mt. Kalatkat requires preparation, especially as it is a more "natural" and less developed trail.

✅Hydration: Bring at least 2 liters of water. You can also include electrolyte drinks (like Gatorade or Pocari Sweat) to stay hydrated.

✅Trail Food: Pack energy-dense snacks such as mixed nuts, chocolates, trail mix, or fruits.Proper Gear: Wear trekking shoes or sandals with excellent traction, as the trail can be slippery.

✅Safety & Essentials:First Aid Kit: Include basic medicines, disinfectants, and bandages.

✅Sun & Bug Protection: Bring sunblock, arm sleeves/leggings, and insect repellent.

✅Emergency Items: A whistle (in case you get separated) and a flashlight/headlamp (if there is any chance you will be hiking near dusk).

✅Clothing: Wear breathable, moisture-wicking clothing. Tucking your pants into your socks is a common practice in tropical hiking to protect against leeches or scratches from grass.

Leave No Trace (LNT): Please bring a trash bag to pack out all your waste. Whatever you bring up the mountain must be brought back down.

Quick Advice for a Successful Hike
💡Don't Hike Alone: If you are a beginner, always go with an experienced group.
💡Hire a Local Guide: Even if you are an experienced hiker, hiring a local guide is the best way to ensure safety, respect local customs, and support the community.
💡Check the Weather: Always check the forecast beforehand, as trails can become muddy and more difficult during the rainy season.

🏔️❤️ Mt. Kalatkat Freedom Climb for a Cause

More than just a climb, this was a journey of service and compassion. The United Outdoors Enthusiasts of Guihulngan successfully conducted the distribution of school supplies to the children of Brgy. Tinayunan Hill, bringing smiles and support to young learners in the community.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Brgy. Captain Tejares, SK Chairperson Acabo, the dedicated teachers who generously spent their rest day to assist in this meaningful activity, and to all participants and donors who made this outreach possible.

Special thanks to DE Ryck Danilo V. Surigao, Oscar A. Tarrosa Jr., Nel-Nel Besario Tejares, and everyone who contributed their time, effort, and resources.

Together, we climbed not only a mountain but also a step closer toward making a difference in the lives of others. 🙏📚⛰️
