YOU ARE NOT THERE!
The Dissonance of Presence
There is a profound difference between inclusion and belonging. Being "invited" is often a matter of formality, social obligation, or even optics. You are physically there, your name was on the list, and the door was opened for you. But "welcome" is an energy; it’s the warmth in a gaze, the genuine curiosity of a question, and the psychological safety of knowing you aren’t being tolerated, but truly wanted.
When you are invited but not welcome, you feel it in your bones. It’s the "polite" silence that follows when you speak, or the way the air shifts when you enter a circle. It forces you into a state of hyper-vigilance. You start to edit yourself, shrinking your personality to fit into the narrow space they’ve allowed you to occupy. It’s exhausting because you are performing your other self.
This! Once you recognize that you aren't welcome, you stop blaming yourself for the awkwardness. You realize the deficit isn't in your value, but in the environment.
Follow your core! It teaches you to stop auditioning for people who have already decided not to cast you.
At the end of the day, you still have your family, sincere friends, real acquaintances or maybe your partner that even in the smallest conversation, you may call it...HOME. 🌷
