How I Negotiate Like a Filipino Breadwinner (and Always Win Without Saying Much)

I don’t argue.
I don’t convince.
And I never chase.

But I still close the deal, my way.

Let me show you how.
Not the “expert” way.
The real way.

And this is a rule no one talks about:

You don’t get what’s fair.
You get what you ask for with confidence.

Most people talk too much.
They over-explain, soften the ask, or wait to be “worth it.”

That’s not power. That’s fear.

Real power is calm. Direct. Unbothered.

Say what you want.
Then stop talking.

Let silence do the heavy lifting.

Never ask: “What’s your budget?”
Ask: “What’s this worth if it works?”

“Budget” makes them think small.
“Worth” makes them think ROI.

When you sell your time, you become a cost.
When you sell results, you become an investment.

Modern Breadwinners don’t sell hours.
We sell outcomes.

I call this the “Nice Person” Trap:

Negotiation isn’t fighting.
But “being nice” still gets you underpaid.

If you’re scared to lose the deal,
you’ll give too much, say yes too fast and end up resenting the whole thing.

Being clear isn’t rude.
It’s respectful to them and to you.

You don’t need to explain why your work is worth it.
Just show up like it is.

When you’re willing to walk,
you stop begging and start leading.

1. Have a backup offer
2. Know your line
3. Stay calm, even if they flinch

Most people negotiate from fear.
Breadwinners negotiate from options.
And options = leverage.

Here’s how I bend the rules (ethically):

When someone says, “That’s too much”…
I don’t drop the price. I drop the friction.

I make it easier to say yes without making myself smaller by:

âś… Fewer meetings
âś… Client brings 1 referral
âś… I reuse parts for my own content

They still get the win.
But I don’t lose myself in the process.

As Modern Breadwinners,
we show up, carry weight, and stay silent.

But we don’t just provide,
we protect our energy.

I used to overgive. Say yes to everyone.
Then I burned out quietly.

Now I negotiate before I collapse.
Because leadership without limits isn’t strength.
It’s self-sabotage.
