Another successful chapter for the Calapan chess community. The 2nd UCPCI Chess Tournament 2026 once again brought together talented and passionate chess players in an atmosphere of healthy competition, sportsmanship, and camaraderie. As part of UCPCI's quarterly tournament series, this event continues to provide a platform for players of all ages and skill levels to test their abilities, gain valuable experience, and strengthen the local chess scene.
We extend our sincerest gratitude to the City Government of Calapan, under the leadership of Mayor Doy C. Leachon and to the City Youth and Sport Development Department, headed by Sir Marvin Panahon, together with their dedicated staff, Sir Ronaldo Delas Alas and Sir Gian Datinguinoo, whose assistance and commitment greatly contributed to the smooth and successful conduct of this tournament.
Our heartfelt appreciation also goes to the officers of the United Chess Players of Calapan, Inc. (UCPCI), headed by Mr. Nezil Arj Merilles, for their dedication and continuous efforts in organizing quality chess events that inspire, develop, and unite the local chess community.
We would also like to extend our deepest appreciation to Architect Charlon Balbuena, one of the esteemed advisers of UCPCI for generously adding sponsorship, whose invaluable support greatly contributed to the success of this tournament. His continued generosity, dedication, and belief in the club's vision have helped provide more opportunities for local chess players to compete, grow, and excel.
Special recognition is given to our tournament officials for ensuring a fair, organized, and well-managed competition. Thank you to Chief Arbiter Nezil Arj Merilles, Sector Arbiter Martiniano Buising, and Pairing Arbiter Julia Infantado for your professionalism, hard work, and commitment to upholding the integrity of every match.
To all our participants, congratulations! Every move played on the board reflects the countless hours of preparation, determination, and love for the game. Whether you finished as a champion or simply gained another valuable tournament experience, your presence made this event truly worthwhile.
This is only the second stop of our quarterly tournament series, and we look forward to seeing everyone again.
