Title: Echoes of Castle
Author: iZekt_WR
I am Afgar, the crown prince in line. I fear no one, I face everything with grace and logic. But I was struggling to talk to her.
Long, curly, hazel hair covered her back. Wearing her usual white dress and always holding a book to read under the oak tree. At a distance, it never fails to amaze me about her. She was good in painting and also in poetry. Her voice matches her soft and angelic personality.
"Why don't you try to talk to her, your highness?"
My smile faded as I heard my right-hand knight's suggestion. I even realized that I smiled too long and stared at her reading. A heavy breath took out the inside of mine.
"How was the preparation?"
"All prepared, your highness. We only waited for your command."
I breathed in before I held my armor headgear tightly before I walked towards her direction. As I was at her side, she didn't bother to look at me. My heart sank at this moment, but as the crown prince, I must stand firm.
"I will be gone for a couple of days. I already asked the servant to es**rt you."
I received no words from her. She was still reading, flipping a thin paper from her book. I sigh heavily and kneel in front of her. This time, I noticed her fingertips stopped from scanning onto the words of her book. That small gesture makes me smile, my Catherine, my lovely Catherine.
"Please be safe, my love," I said, uttering those words.
A strong, heavy feeling was piercing into my chest. I can't leave like this, but I can't forget my duties. I won't let them invade my territory in the name of the holy. I will protect my home... No... Our home.
We set out from our kingdom for the coming war. The plan was set, and we face them fiercely and pledge loyalty to my kind. I swore to the holy and to my love.
Sounds of swords clanging against each other, sounds of screams from people who had been slain by their enemies. Protecting our people was the reason I am here. I know they only wanted my bride, my soon-to-be wife. That lunatic beast will never let go of her, he must face me for trying to steal my life.
'I can't let you go! We can do something for this!'
'I can't stand here doing nothing. He's the reason why this war broke out, if life needs to be ended, it would be him.'
'This war was more dangerous than you thought! I'm afraid something will happen to you!' She screamed, tears falling from her eyes.
'I can't back down from this war,' I answered firmly. I must not lose my composure, her tears make my heart fall apart.
'Even if you lose me…?' My lips froze because of those questions. Why does she need to sacrifice herself for the sake of this war? She's making me as crazy as she thought she would.
'He triggered my people. I won't back down,' I answered before I left her in her room.
It was my mistake for not comforting her. I know she was worried about my well-being. I became too selfish as days went by, making myself crazy as it looks. But I will protect my everything, no one will cost a life. My men helped me to get inside from their camp, tempted to kill that bastard who let her suffer for years. I slay every single one of his people. I went straight to it. Later, realizing it was empty, we were confused.
"Your Highness! Our people saw a couple of horsemen using the other route leading to our kingdom!"
My eyes widened in total shock and surprise. My heart beats so fast as I recall my precious gem living in my place.
"RETURN TO THE CASTLE!" I yelled and led them.
My horse ran as fast as he could. Without rest, I finally gaze at my castle, in chaos. My heart did not stop beating so fast as I remember the glimpse of my beloved as my last figure towards her. No, I must not waver!
"CHARGE!!"
"POSITION!"
I went straight into the castle. Echoes of voices ringing in my ears. I ordered my people to help them, and leave me to go straight to my Catherine. I unmounted my horse and slew every enemy that came my way.
"My king!"
I heard a loud voice coming from my east side. I saw my beloved Catherine struggling to let go from the hands of my enemy. My eyes widened in anger; she was wearing a torn morning dress and had some bruises on her body. I tightened my grip on my sword and ran towards their direction, slaying the enemy in front of me as my gaze was locked onto my main dish.
"You can't have her!" He yelled and wielded his sword and struck into mine. Making loud noises with our swords.
"You have no right to take my precious from me!" I yelled and swung my sword.
At last, I struck the sword into his chest, which could lay him into the ground. Screaming in pain, I pointed my blade towards his neck.
"End my life.." he commanded.
"That was what I was supposed to do. But..." I retreated my sword. "My beloved once treated you as her brother. You are the only family that she had, if I kill you, she would be broken-heart. My beloved never commanded me to do that. Live, and never set your kin to my kingdom," I said, ice cold with tone of warn and walked away, my eyes laid on her, staring at me as tears fell from her eyes.
I immediately hugged her. I feel so relieved that I made it on time. If not, I would end my life, as I am not worthy to be crowned as king.
