The 1st Madrangca Writers Workshop for Children’s Literature in Kinaray-a – Day 2 🌷

This was honestly one of the most productive weekends I’ve ever had. I’m glad I decided to join, even though I was hesitant at first since I thought writing in Kinaray-a would be really challenging. But I ended up enjoying the series of writing workshops that Sir Alex prepared for us. It was a fun experience to spend those two days challenging myself to come up with story ideas for every prompt he gave. We wrapped up the weekend with five finished short stories each, and it was definitely a memorable one for us as the pioneer batch of the Madrangca Writers Workshop.

A storytelling workshop with Sir Alex Delos Santos through Book Nook San Jose’s Hibla Lokal Program 2025.

My September was filled with all sorts of side quests, including two writing workshops. This was the first one, held last September 16, which I got to attend as a member of the Panday Dila Writers' Collective. It was definitely a productive day, filled with new learnings and discoveries, especially since it was my first time joining a Kinaray-a workshop.

We also went on a short tour of the Paghabül sa Antique textile gallery at the National Museum of the Philippines–Antique, and ended the day at EBJ Freedom Park, where we learned more about Evelio Javier's life and legacy.

how do you s̶t̶o̶p̶ start growing up?

Since entering my twenties, it’s become my yearly tradition to write a blog post about my birthday as a way to reflect on my growth. This blog is my safe space, kind of like a digital journal where I share my personal writings. Here's my birthday scribbles that I wrote last August:

A little introduction for this page °❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
Hi! I’m August, a local published author, bookworm, and artist. I’ve been writing for more than a decade now, but only started taking it more seriously this year. Hence, this page.

Welcome to my tiny corner of the internet where I'll be sharing my writings, art, and musings. I hope you find a safe and cozy space here. (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) ✨

10 books to get to know me 📚₊˚⊹♡

Some of these are childhood favorites that feel like home, while the others are the stories where I see pieces of myself.

Joining this trend by Sir Edgar Calabia Samar and Packing Sheets ( ◜‿◝ )♡

Hirap mamili ng 10 books lang but I chose the ones that really remind me how much I enjoy getting lost in between the pages of a book.

In no particular order:

1. Heidi - Johanna Spyri
2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - J.K. Rowling
3. The Secret Garden - Frances Hodgson Burnett
4. The Perks of Being a Wallflower - Stephen Chbosky
5. Tales from Moominvalley - Tove Jansson
6. ABNKKBSNPLAko?! - Bob Ong
7. Philippine Speculative Fiction, Volume 10 - edited by Dean Francis Alfar
8. Walong Diwata ng Pagkahulog - Edgar Calabia Samar
9. Upstream - Mary Oliver
10. Film for Her - Orion Carloto
