Hi everyone, SkyHook here to share some new info about Karina with you. Last time, we chatted about our thought process for Karina's revamped skill design. But today, let's move on to her art design and the story behind
You all helped to vote for Karina as the hero most in need of a revamp. As such, we've reworked her art and bio, exploring new directions for the character while staying true to her original elements and overall tone. In this way, we can have her core charm truly shine through. We hope that we've succeeded in retaining the Karina you know and love, just with higher artistic quality.
One of the hardest obstacles for us was how to keep her basic impression intact while still creating a new experience for you all. Our art designers submitted two concepts.
In Karina's first redesign, our designers improved her artistic quality while also making sure to keep her original color palette and her Elven elegance intact. When we advanced to the second stage of her redesign, however, our artists took inspiration from the two core themes Karina exhibits in her bio: "both good and evil", and "fortitude".
Building upon the first draft, the second redesign simplified her color scheme so that there would be a bigger emphasis on the black & silver contrast. Furthermore, our designers added some exquisite patterning to her equipment that leans more toward the 'evil' side. We think this all comes together to the good-evil duplicity inherent in Karina.
Besides this, the final draft now presents us with a Karina that appears a lot lighter, and more nimble. One aspect of the designers' rework is that Karina's been made more attractive, while another is that — by reducing the curves of her armor — we've aimed to emphasize her determination to fit with her 'avenger' background. Now, her armor's blade-like sharp lines really bring out her capacity as a lithe and cold-hearted assassin.
Overall, Karina's art design was carried out with the goal to maintain the original vibe while also being representative of her bio, and character design too. We sincerely hope that you're all happy to see our brand-new reinterpretation of Karina.
