KATIKANGAN, meaning “the start,” marks a significant milestone for the creative community of Abuyog. This exhibit brings together works by both emerging and established local artists from the Local Artists of Abuyog (LAYOG) and the talented participants of the Abuyog Weekend Art Class.
Rooted in a deep love for our hometown, KATIKANGAN celebrates Abuyog’s rich cultural heritage and its intrinsic connection to nature through visual storytelling. Each piece reflects the unique voices and visions of artists who draw inspiration from our landscapes, traditions, and shared experiences as Abuyognons.
Held in celebration of June as Environmental Month, the exhibit also aims to raise awareness on pressing environmental issues, particularly ocean conservation — a cause vital to our coastal identity.
This exhibition also serves as the culminating activity and certificate awarding for our art class students, honoring their creative journey and growth. At the same time, it officially introduces LAYOG as a dynamic and growing collective committed to promoting creativity, cultural pride, and environmental consciousness in Abuyog and beyond.
May this exhibit be the beginning of many more collaborative efforts that uplift art, community, and nature — the very essence of KATIKANGAN.
