Global data indicates that elevating the role of women can help 235 million people better handle climate-driven challenges and PNG can use this data to better prepare our own provinces. From the coastlines to the highlands, our mothers and sisters are the first to face the consequences of changing weather patterns on their gardens. Placing more resources directly into their hands is the most effective way to keep every village across the country stable and fed.

πŸ“’ Mark the date, this one earns your attention.

@β€ŒFAO is hosting a webinar to introduce its new report, β€œFood safety implications of recycled plastics and alternative food contact materials (FCMs)” and it goes straight to the realities behind how food is packaged today.

Expect a discussion with food safety experts and industry voices on the risks, the standards, and what must be addressed when recycled and alternative materials come into contact with food.

For Papua New Guinea, this is an opportunity to build a stronger understanding of safer packaging practices that protect consumers, support local businesses, and keep pace with global expectations. In a market where packaging is often treated as an afterthought, that kind of awareness carries real value.

Women farmers are the engine of our local food systems, from the gardens to the markets. While they sustain families and strengthen global agrifood systems, PNG can use this data to support our own rural producers. Recognizing the hard work of our mothers and sisters in the provinces is essential for the economic health of every community across the country.

Financial independence is a vital tool for women working across our local food systems. While the global data shows women make up 38% of the agrifood workforce, they often receive only 82 cents for every dollar earned by their male counterparts and PNG is no different. Providing our mothers and daughters in the village equal access to kina and toea through formal banking strengthens the economic foundation of our entire country.

that some diseases can be shared between animals and people?

These are called zoonotic diseases. In PNG, because it is not uncommon for us to live so closely with our livestock and wildlife, especially in the villages, it is important to practice good hygiene and keep our animals healthy to protect our families. When our animals are safe, our communities are safe too! πŸ–πŸ“πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦

Safety first at the Central Government Building! 🏒

It was a sight to see everyone from top executives to subordinates in high-vis vests today during the fire drill in Waigani. Great job to the Papua New Guinea Fire Service and all the "Floor Wardens" and "First Aiders" who managed a smooth and successful evacuation!
