Title: “Guardian of the Silent Fire”
Acrylic on Stretched Canvas
70cm x 50cm

Behind the Inspiration Story

This artwork was inspired by the silent strength of Papua New Guinea — a nation built on fire, yet standing in peace.
The volcano in the background represents the living mountains of our land — like those in East New Britain and other volcanic regions of PNG. A volcano may look calm from afar, but inside it carries fire, power, and history. It reminds us that our people also carry deep strength within, even when we stand quietly.
The masked figure represents a traditional spirit guardian — clothed in layers of green leaves symbolizing life, growth, and the forest that sustains our people. The tall pointed mask reaching upward shows connection between earth and sky — between ancestors and future generations. The white feather at the top symbolizes purity of spirit and divine guidance.
The wide eyes reflect awareness — a guardian who watches over land, water, and people. The calm water at his feet contrasts with the rising smoke behind him. It tells a message:
Even when there is pressure, even when the mountain shakes, we stand firm.
This painting speaks about:
Strength in silence
Cultural identity rising above challenges
The balance between destruction and renewal
The guardianship of tradition in modern times
“Guardian of the Silent Fire” reminds us that Papua New Guinea is not just a land of beauty — it is a land of living power, ancestral protection, and unshaken identity.

Title: “Crown of the Living Tumbuna”

Behind the Inspired Story:

In the heart of the rainforest, where the morning mist kisses the treetops and the wind carries ancestral whispers, there sits the Bird of Paradise — crowned in gold and wrapped in fire-like feathers.
This is not just a bird.
It represents Papua New Guinea — a nation clothed in beauty, strength, and spiritual identity.
The golden crown on its head symbolizes wisdom passed down from the tumbuna. The deep green throat reflects the rich land and forests. The red wings speak of sacrifice, courage, and the strength of the people. And the long flowing white and yellow plumes are like the light of hope — stretching beyond the branches into the future.
The branch it rests upon is steady — representing tradition.
The dark forest below, painted with swirling green patterns, symbolizes life, stories, and the many tribes rooted in the land. Each spiral is a clan, a voice, a history.
But look closely — the bird is not flying.
It is watching.
It is guarding.
It is reminding us that true royalty is not in power, but in identity.
“Crown of the Living Tumbuna” speaks about cultural pride. It speaks about heritage that still breathes. It reminds every Papua New Guinean that we are crowned already — not by gold, but by culture, land, and spirit.

Title: “Spirit of the Burning Mountain”

Acrylic on Stretched Canvas
70cm x 50cm

Inspired Behind Story
In the heart of the island, where fire meets the ocean and the sky glows with ancestral memory, a spirit rises.
This painting represents a sacred cultural dancer emerging from the land of volcanoes — a guardian of tradition walking between destruction and life. Behind him, the mountain erupts, symbolizing power, change, and the untamed force of nature. Yet he dances calmly, confidently, as if reminding us that culture survives even when the earth trembles.
The coconut tree stretching across the sky represents life, provision, and the connection to the islands. The ocean reflects both fire and peace — showing the balance between chaos and harmony in Papua New Guinea.
The mask, with its strong red and white markings, is not just a face covering — it is identity. It speaks of ancestors, secret ceremonies, initiation, and sacred knowledge passed down through generations. The green grass costume symbolizes the land itself — forests, mountains, and gardens — wrapping the dancer in the spirit of the earth.
This artwork tells the story that even in times of eruption — whether natural disasters, struggles, or change — the spirit of PNG culture will continue to dance.
It will not fall. It will not burn. It will rise.

Title:
“Face of the Living Tumbuna”

Behind the Story:

Face of the Living Tumbuna represents the spirit of the ancestors still walking among the living people of Papua New Guinea. This is not a portrait of one person, but a symbolic face—where past, present, and future meet in one gaze.
The white facial paint signifies purity, sacred duty, and the spiritual world. It reflects the ancestral realm, where wisdom is clean, uncompromised, and eternal. The bold black, red, and yellow patterns around the eyes are marks of protection and identity—colors that speak of strength, bloodline, courage, and the fire of life passed down through generations.
The eyes are intentionally realistic and direct. They symbolize awareness and memory—ancestors who see what the living do, reminding us that culture is not forgotten, only waiting to be honored again. The layered headdress and feathers represent tribal authority and ceremonial pride, echoing the diversity of PNG’s many tribes united under shared heritage.
The green background reflects the land—fertile, alive, and sustaining. It reminds us that the ancestors are not only spirits of the past but guardians of the forests, soil, and future generations. The bright red tones around the body symbolize life force and continuity—the heartbeat of culture still flowing today.
This artwork tells the story that Tumbuna are not silent. They live in our faces, our land, our ceremonies, and our responsibility to carry tradition forward. The painting challenges the viewer to ask: Are we still wearing the face of our ancestors with pride?
