Goodnight: Special shout out to the youths of Badilli, Koki, Kone, Wanigela, 2 mile hill, Hanuabada and Tokarara who turned up overnight to set up NFS on Thursday, some of them walking to the stadium on their own accord and volunteering. Some of them with their parents. They worked with us from 9am to 5am.
They said they wanted the show back.
Some of them said there wont be any trouble in the Port Moresby South area for the weekend. A lot of them are not on Facebook. All of them grew up in the electorate.
If you are reading this and you know some of them, please thank them for us. Also special thanks to the Paps from Tokarara who brought his street boys, and the HB father who brought his teenage daughter and son.

It was like something out of a movie.

Going for K50 a table. This is an incredible idea that these youths came up with.
The boys and girl had no carpentry or welding skills but under the guidance of a skilled carpenter and a welder they constructed benches, tables, foldable tables, portable kiosks and more giving them skills to earn that life in the city doesnt give them.
The portable, foldable market tables they built is going for K50 a peice. You can find their area of operation at Koki, behind the Vocational school.

Pom Souths Youth Collective: Kone and Koki.
Alot of the work to set up NFS was done by this group of self-employed boys and girl who are now selling all these stools and benches for K1000.00 only for a whole batch between 50 to 100 benches.
They had built these amazing shelters that could be assembled and disassembled in no time, but the change in the show date to an earlier date forced them to stop production and used the scaffolding instead. Very innovative.
So buy their benches, simply inbox as they want to clear them out now. They selling the whole lot for K1000, Great for churches, schools, groups etc. They can also design and develop unique wood and metal products now and can take direct orders. Before the event closes today, we ask as many people as possible to come down to NFS to take part in the events and support each other. The Show would have been a resounding success if not for last minute changes including reducing the bump in time to less than 48 hours.
The good thing is that Cocacola (CCEP) is now committed to an annual program of supporting the Port Moresby Show. A large multi-national onboard means that the Port Moresby Show will now be a permanent fixture of Port Moresby every November, every year.
There was alot of concern raised about security concerns. The truth is, security issues only follow rugby league around.
It was blown out of proportion for this. Most port moresby people are good people and the NFS is the best secured place in POM because it was built for the security of Australian NRL players and the NRL bid. Imagine if it was built for Papua New Guineans with the same intent.
Because we had so little time to just set up for the bump in for the show, we couldnt make the changes we had planned to enable park and ride and other initiatives.
Our costs have also exploded to set up this weekend because of the changes. As simple citizens, these costs is so high.
Despite the challenges, most of the lessons now learned are easily applicable.
Coke is onboard annually now as a sponsor of the Port Moresby Show is possible for next year.
Despite how hard it has been and all the issues and shortcomings, glad to say, our children will have something to look for every year.

The Port Moresby Show is back.
