in this house we are team Ali Hazelwood 😎😎
we live in a time where online bullying and harassment have become alarmingly common. it’s okay to have different opinions, whether it’s about books, authors, or characters, but that never gives anyone the right to be cruel. the backlash Ali has faced over a fictional character crossed a line, and for what?
over the past few years, i’ve had the privilege of speaking with Ali. she’s supported my small business out of pure kindness, expecting nothing in return. she is constantly uplifting minority authors in her platforms, she is a very sweet and supportive person in this community, yet somehow, she’s been bullied out of it.
whether you’re a fan of her books or not, as someone who’s been and continues to be part of fandoms, it’s worth asking: what makes someone feel entitled to attack others over fiction? this was never about a real person, real harm, or any moral dilemma, it was about opinions. no one likes to see their faves not being appreciated, that does not mean you can be an a*ssh*le to someone else because of it.
anyway, i’ll continue to support her and her books for as long as i fell like it because they bring me joy, because behind the books is a genuinely good human being.
