Cooks beach is pretty special to this family of 6. They say you will never have this day with your children again, tomorrow they will be a little older, they will change and grow and learn new ways of being in the world. It was such a joy to photograph this moment in time for this family, to notice and capture their sweet faces, little feet, vibrant spirit and playfulness. Hopefully one day they will look back on these photos and cherish these moments of freedom and innocence, of squishy sand on the beach and wind in the hair.

it might have just been the windiest day ever! I had so much fun capturing the windswept hair and playful spirit of a family of 6 (4 girls who, like the wind, didn't seem to stand still :)

Thornton Bay beach days are pretty special to this family. At the start of the summer the kids enjoyed wading in the surprisingly warm water, rambling over jagged rocks to climb giant pohutukawa’s, running along the beach to search for glistening crystals and seashells and holding them close like prized possessions.

My job was easy, I just tried to capture all those magical childhood moments as they discovered their surroundings and any authentic gestures of love between siblings and parents that just can’t be posed or prompted.

everyone says 'they grow too fast', maybe that's why I'm so compelled to capture all of those natural moments between father and daughter; strong hands embracing little toes, that innocent just woke up face after being squished in the carrier and the way your eyes scrunch and glisten when you laugh in his arms. childhood is just pure magic

a bit about why I love to shoot at golden hour ... around here that magic golden light happens around 7:30pm on a bright day. I don't know any babies that would be keen to have their photo taken then (definitely not mine!), but if your family or kids are happy out in that golden light I'd love to capture that magic for you
