Every job has a labour allowance. Most carpenters only ever hear about theirs when they’ve gone over it.
That’s the bit we do differently.
We track labour against allowance on every job, and we talk about it — both ways, and while the job is still live. Every significant stage, and monthly. Not a post-mortem after handover when there’s nothing anyone can do with it.
When a crew comes in under, we say so out loud, and we look at what they did that made the difference so everyone else gets it too. When we go over, we sit down and work out why. Sometimes it’s how it was priced. Sometimes it’s a detail nobody had built before. Sometimes it’s us.
When you’re a good carpenter, that number is the closest thing you’ve got to a scoreboard - you should get to see it, you should get to beat it. And when you do, someone should notice. We do.
We’re looking for a qualified carpenter. Whanganui, full-time, permanent.
