Meet More of Kate’s Gang!

A revolution isn't built by one woman alone.

That Bloody Woman features a strong and spirited female ensemble, bringing to life the many women who stood alongside Kate Sheppard in the fight for equality. These determined campaigners marched, organised, rallied support, collected signatures, and refused to accept the status quo.

Together, they form the beating heart of this story, courageous women united by a common cause and a belief that change was possible.

Our talented ensemble brings energy, humour, passion and plenty of girl power to the stage, helping tell one of New Zealand's most important stories in a way that is bold, modern and unforgettable.

Thinking of coming? Don't wait too long!

Meet Kate’s Gang!

Behind every great movement is a group of extraordinary women, and Kate Sheppard was no exception.

Introducing three of the powerhouse women at the heart of That Bloody Woman:

Maegan Young as Ada Wells: passionate, determined and never afraid to challenge the status quo.

Jess Guimelli as Jennie Lovell-Smith: a loyal friend and fierce advocate for change.

Marion Low as Mary Leavitt: a charismatic campaigner who helped ignite the temperance movement across New Zealand.

Together, these women stand alongside Kate as they fight for a voice, a vote, and a better future. Their friendship, courage and unwavering determination helped shape one of the most important moments in New Zealand history.

Bringing humour, heart and plenty of attitude to the stage, Kate's Gang is ready to start a revolution this July!

Meet the Cast!

Leading the revolution is Janine Weatherly as the fearless and determined Kate Sheppard, alongside Bradley Craig as the formidable Prime Minister, Richard "King Dick" Seddon.

Kate and Dick find themselves on opposite sides of one of New Zealand's most significant battles, the fight for women's suffrage. Their clash of ideals, personalities and wills drives much of the action in this bold, funny and inspiring musical.

With powerful performances, plenty of humour, and more than a little rivalry, Janine and Bradley are bringing these larger-than-life characters to the Lake Wānaka Centre stage this July.

Who are you backing: Team Kate or Team Dick?

Calling all sewing legends, costume creatives, and crafty hands!

Onstage Wānaka is looking for sewing volunteers to assist our costume team for That Bloody Woman. If you have a creative mind, can sew, or want to learn how to sew in a straight line you are welcome.

We meet at Wanaka Community Workshop on Gordon Road every Monday, 6:30pm–8:30pm, working on alterations, recreating, repurposing and recycling costumes to help make this bold production truly stand out.

No fashion runway experience required, just a love of creating, a good sense of humour, and a willingness to get stuck in. It’s fun, social, and a great way to be part of something special behind the scenes.

Come stitch, chat, laugh… and help us make this show unforgettable.

Keen? Get in touch, we’d love to have you on board!

We are very grateful to Wanaka Community Workshop for providing this space.

A special piece of Wānaka history.

Did you know this plaque, commemorating 125 years of New Zealand women’s suffrage, can be found right here in Wānaka at the library?

Dedicated to a Kate Sheppard, it was unveiled in September 2018 with a camellia donated by the Wānaka Women’s Suffrage Committee, a beautiful tribute to the women who fought to make their voices heard.

We’d love to know, are any members of the original Wānaka Women’s Suffrage Committee still active in our community, or do you know someone who was involved? We’d love to hear from you.

As we prepare to bring That Bloody Woman to the stage this July, it’s a timely reminder that Kate Sheppard’s legacy is alive and well in our own community.

Have you seen it?
