***The Last Songs Last Post***

Hey everyone,

The production team of The Last Song just want to take a moment to say a big, heartfelt thank you to all the incredible people who made the play possible.

First off—our fearless director, Blair Strang. Thank you for your vision, your leadership, and for steering the ship with such heart. You made this journey unforgettable. Alys Hughes – thank you for your fabulous dance chorography. Kate Louise-Elliot – for writing an awesome play and for granting us the rights to put it on.

Lenore Potier, Amber Scott and Chrissy Were, your costumes, makeup and hair dressing brought the characters to life. Thank you for your creativity and attention to detail—you truly made the cast shine.

A massive shoutout to all our backstage crew—everyone who scanned tickets, ushers, moved sets, decorated the Hall, set up and packed up, but especially the team that volunteered to ran the tech – Paula Poloniati and Bruce Roberts — all of you are the glue that held the production together. We literally couldn’t have done it without you.

To Glenn Border and Tim Bell for supplying the lightening and sound, they gave generous discounts towards the production costs.

To the Waipu Lions Club, Louise Wickham and Judy Guy who run the Bar and the Kitchen over the 6 nights.

Dave Klum – who did the Shane video and has put a video together of the show to enable all of the cast to be able to watch the show themselves. This video was made possible by some locals who agreed to fund the discounted cost of doing this so a special thanks to: Warren McLean, Paul Jensen (Fresha Valley Milk), James Alexander (Ray White) and John Lang.

And now, to our incredible cast—what a group. They poured their hearts into their roles, brought their characters to life, and told the story with such honesty, emotion and humour. Every rehearsal, every line, every moment on stage—they gave it their all.

They didn’t just perform—they connected with the audience, with each other, and with the purpose behind this show: raising funds and awareness for Linking Hands. That’s what has made this more than just a play. It has became something meaningful. A donation of $42,000 which will enable Linking Hands to purchase a new car for the Waipu area.

So to every cast member, every crew member, every volunteer —thank you. You’ve been generous, passionate, and absolutely brilliant. Everybody is so proud of what we’ve created together.

And finally a huge thank you to all of our audience members who purchased tickets to the show. Without an audience the show would be nothing and there would have been no donation to give to Linking Hands. So a massive thanks to you all.

Cast: Emma Couper, Neil Troost, Alisa Dodds, Chris Townshend, Jenni Carr, Amber Scott, Lizzie Carroll-Thom, Aleesha O’Brian, Kasey Carr, Stacey Hollis, Paul Carr, Gary Loughnan, Christian Dally, Johnny Fetelika, Jeannie McKee, Milena Zampa and Kylie Reynolds.

Heartfelt Thanks from -

This is what it’s all about — giving back. 💙

Today, we proudly presented a $42,000 cheque to Linking Hands Incorporated! This funding will help them purchase a much-needed vehicle to transport community members to their medical appointments from the Bream Bay and Kaipara District areas. 🚐❤️

We love this community — and together, we made this happen.
Thank you to everyone who helped us achieve this amazing milestone. 🙌

Whether you’re a long-time local or new to Waipu, we can’t wait to welcome you! There’s plenty of parking just across the road from the Hall.

💡 Fun Fact: The Hall has a rich history — the vintage photo of the Hall was taken on 30th December 1914, marking the unveiling of the settlers’ monument (yes, the one with the lion on top! 🦁)

Introducing Alisa Dodds.

With a Performing Arts Degree, Alisa thrives on the buzz of live performance and the powerful connections formed through creative collaboration. Born and bred in Whangarei, she’s starred in shows like Mamma Mia, performs with Opera North, and teaches dance and drama at Te Kamo Intermediate. Plus she’s a familiar face in local classrooms as a relief teacher.

When she’s not on stage or in the classroom, Alicia’s a proud mum of two, a big sports fan, and manager of an Under-13s rugby team. 💪🏉

Waipu's performing arts scene has a special place in her heart – she loves the energy, the people, and the warm, welcoming vibe of the community.

Quote for the night: “Buy the ticket, take the ride.”

Introducing Stacey Hollis.

A resident of Mangawhai, Stacey is often seen being towed around the streets by her energetic dogs. A regular at the gym, she’s currently training for the Hyrox event in Melbourne later this year. Stacey also has a passion for surfing, frequently shredding waves with friends at Waipu Cove.

After some gentle encouragement from a friend, Stacey decided to step outside her comfort zone and audition for The Last Song. A lover of karaoke the concept of the show immediately piqued her interest. While she’s no stranger to the microphone, this is her first time performing on stage beyond karaoke nights—making the experience both exciting and nerve-wracking.

She’s found the play to be a huge learning curve, helped by a super talented team.

Quote for the night: “Opportunities don't happen, you create them.”

Introducing Neil Troost.

Two years ago, Neil rediscovered his passion for performing when Blair cast him in Penalties, Pints and Pirouettes — a play he also wrote. That experience lit a spark, and the stage has been calling him back ever since.

Watching Stars in Your Eyes from the sidelines last year wasn’t easy. As much as he tried to cheer on the contestants, Neil admits to being more than a little envious. This year, there was no way he was going to miss out — especially not with such a fun, community-spirited crew involved.

A true local lad with deep roots in Waipu’s farming community, Neil loves everything the town stands for, and events like Last Song are the heartbeat of what makes Waipu so special. As for whether he can sing... well, the audience will have to decide. His kids certainly already have.

Neil lives by two mottos:
"It's always easier to get forgiveness than permission," and
"Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story."
